Why does Guinness beer cost so much in the States?!

Question: Why does Guinness beer cost so much in the States!?
it taste great but in the U!.S!. its price is so high!? if sales went up do you think the price would come down or go up!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
as others have stated, import cost and taxes are the likely cost

as for prices, if it follows the free-market economy, if sales went up, that WON'T drop the price!.!.!. if anything, it might increase the cost if the company can't produce more to meet demand!. the only way prices would drop is if:

they open a brewery in the US
their demand drops significantly to warrent dropping price to increase consumption!.
they develope a cheaper means of production
their transport cost or import taxes by the US are reduced!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most of the answers here are correct, also other breweries are licensed by guinness to make it in different countries, so maybe there's no such licenced brewery in the U!.S!. !? therefore it has to be imported - but the bottom line is, you're drinking "liquid gold" - something that's worth every cent it costs you! Enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ugh!. Guinness here sucks!. I don't like it in general, but our version is nothing like you can get over there!. Those nasty nitrogenated dry stouts are boring!. Try an imperial stout like Bell's Expedition or Great Divide Yeti for a great and TASTY beer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Since it is technically an imported beer they have all the extra duties put on Guinness!. I don't thin the price would go down if the U!.S!. sales went up though!. The profits would go up and they would want to sustain the higher profits for as long as they could!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think the price is high!. It's comparable to other imports!. I love it and think it's worth every penny!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's imported and it's real beer not compared to the swill usually passed off as beer in the USAWww@FoodAQ@Com

The high import or customs duties are responsible for this price!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm guessing they must import it from Ireland, rather than having a Guiness brewery in the US, so the shipping and taxes must add up!.

Lovely drink though :o)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Because it's imported!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
