Our drinks are much the same as anywhere else, we don't necessarily do our own cocktails!. All I can think of is we have our own Vodka brand called 42 Below which comes in different flavours like feijoa (it's a cool brand that has become popular with celebrities in the USA, especially New York)!. It's kind of pricey though!.
There are some bars here that come up with their own cocktails & they use kiwifruit liquer or kiwifruit flavouring in them!.
I agree with Linda, why would NZers want to drink their own drinks overseas anyway!!! That's the whole point of going overseas, to see & try different things & eat the local produce & drink the local drinks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I gurrantee that if you put 4 shots of vodka in a pint glass, put 3 or 4 ice cubes in and then fill the rest up with equal parts of chilled Cranberry juice, Apple juice and Red Bull, that you will be left wit a great tasting drink that will induce drunkeness quickly!.
Following those instructions the drink will be 8% in strength and contain 4 units of alcahol!. Thats per glass 28% of a girls recomended week allowence of alcahol and 19% of a guys!. You will also be on the drink drive limit!.
The vodka should be 37!.5% as this will, when mixed to my intructions provide the ideal balence between taste and strength but is only 0!.5% lower that the strength Dmitri Mendeleev concluded was the perfect strength for vodka!. 38%, he said was not to watery and not to much of a burn on the throat!.
This strength was rounded up by the Russian goverment to 40% for tax purpose and adopted by the EU as they have set the minuim strength on drinks containing nuetral grians spirits that can be leagally called vodka at 37!.5%, if you think you have a bottle of vodka that is less than that in strength check the label it will say "Vodka Drink" and not just "Vodka"!.
I strongly reconmend a good quality vodka such as Smirnoff, Red Square or Absoute Vodka!. Although any sinlge grain, triple distilled vodka will be fine, for example ALDI's Tamova forefills the requirements and in the taste tests I did is almost indistiugable to Smirnoff!.
I hope you try this and if you do, I would be greatful if you could email me to tell me what you thought - mrgreghoward@hotmail!.co!.uk

if you can go to the liquor store and get some 42 degrees vodka!. it's distilled from local natural grains in new zealand and comes in a few exotic flavors!. i'd rest assured that anything made locally is a local staple in some recipes!. other than that i'd say go with anything passion fruit or kiwi or feijoa!. you might also want to consider making them some of your favorites since you haven't seen them in so long!. i'm sure they'd love to try something new instead of the same cocktails they're used to at home!. when you go on vacation don't you look forward to trying things local to the region you're visiting!? Good Luck and just have fun with it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Just wait until they arrive and ask them what they prefer!.
If they're oldsters they may be into gin & tonic or old-school cocktails!.
If younger (they won't be under 30, will they!.!.!.) maybe vino!. Serve local stuff, they'll find it interesting!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
