Why do you feel the drinking age should be 18?!
*EDIT* I have lived in places where the drinking age is lower than in the U!.S!., if this applies to your country, please refrain from answering the question!. I do not want it to encourage young Americans from doing something they shouldn't be doing!.
If young Americans fight and die for their country they should have the right to drink / purchase alcohol!. (That's what many of you think but not me!. Since the Vietnam War, there has NOT been a "draft", those soldiers who have enlisted in the U!.S!. army are volunteers!. Meaning they have volunteered to put their lives on the line!.
I respect those soldiers in the U!.S!. Army, don't get me wrong!. More and more people in America are critical of the wars being waged in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the conditions they fight under are, from what I have hard, less than perfect!.
But if you lower the drinking age to 18, then you're going to have 14 and 15 year old's trying to get fake IDs!. And considering that one can get a driver's license at 16, and considering the rowdyness of many teenagers, whether sober or drunk, it would increase the risk of accidents significantly!. College students 18 - 21 should focus on their education which improves their future!. Not booze it up and put their lives on the line as well as those of others!.
When drunk in moderation, alcohol can relax someone, can complement food!. But there are many negative side effects!.

Because they're immature!. Even at that age most of them have no idea of what's responsability and what are the risks of alcohol!. This girl died some months ago, she crashed her car and killed herself, she was drunk and she wasn't even a teen http://360!.yahoo!.com/profile-dGBQWTM3d7O!.!.!.

The best answers I have seen here, and I agree, is that the drinking age is okay at 18 but the driving age should be 20 or 21!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Part of the reason why teenagers want to get drunk is because it is forbidden to them!. If they were allowed to have a beer with dinner, most of them would realize they don't like the flavor and drinking too much can only cause you to feel ill!.
Operating a motor vehicle is considerably more dangerous than consuming an alcoholic beverage!. Give 16 year olds a chance to get over the novelty of drinking and then let them drive a few years later, when they will be less likely to mix the two!.
Most of my friends who were allowed to have beer or a glass of wine with dinner as teenagers drink moderately as adults!. Most who were disallowed from drinking and lived in households where drinking was romanticized as an adult pastime will drink until they pass out or vomit now!. And, sadly, they still think their "I was so drunk!.!.!." stories are super cool!.

I don't think that the drinking age should be lowered in the US!. I'm 19 and yeah I have drank before!. I feel that I should be done in a Controlled environment!. If you go to college in the states your gonna end up drinking!.!.!.!.!.!. parents should teach there kids before they go off to college instead of there friends who don't know very much about drinking teaching them!. I do think that if you are 18 and join the army or any of the armed forces that you should be able to have a drink!. I think if the drinking age was lowered it would be really bad at first, but eventually it would all even out!. from what i know other countries don't seem to have such a problem with drinking because it isn't illegal!. i think kids wouldn't care as much because it would be really accessible!.
