Answers:
proof is simply double the percentage all the time!. if you have 100 proof thats 50% and so on!. and anything over 100 proof should catch on fire when exposed to open flames!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

a!. the arbitrary standard strength, as of an alcoholic liquor!.
b!. strength with reference to this standard: “100 proof” signifies a proof spirit, usually 50% alcohol!.

Proof is the measurement of an alcohol's strength, and is always double what the percentage is!. If a bottle says 25% alcohol, it is 50 proof!. It has been used for hundreds of years as a measurement because people used to water down their liquor, but others could find out how strong it really was by measuring the strength- which told them the "proof"Www@FoodAQ@Com

Proof is a measure of the alcohol content of liquor!. It is derived from doubling the percentage of alcohol!. The Absolut bottle is redundant!. Most liquors just give the proof, not the percentage!. Thus an 86-proof Scotch is actually 43% alcohol, etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

40% alc!./vol means every liter you drink is 400 mL of alcohol!. Proof is simply defined as the alcoholic content on a scale to 200 instead of 100%!.

Most vodkas are 80 proof or 40%
PGA is 190 proof or 95%
Beer is around 12 proof or 6% alcohol (varies by brand)Www@FoodAQ@Com

how they came up with the word proof is back in the old days they used to mix it with gunpowder and the more gunpowder it used to ignite the less proff it was, somthing along that lines Www@FoodAQ@Com

http://simple!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Proof_(!.!.!.

proof is double the % of alcohol/vol (that's the simple answer at least) Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's just how much alcohol there is in it!. Like if it was 50% alc, it would be 100 proof, or 25% alc it would be 50 proof!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

80 proof = 40 percent

proof is a measure out of 200, percent is out of 100Www@FoodAQ@Com
