A German celebration where people meet in München to drink alot of beer! it has roots in some marriage Www@FoodAQ@Com

the ORIGINAL Oktoberfest (note spelling) is a 16-day festival in Munich, Germany!. It starts in September (really!.!.!.) and is famous for the amounts of beer - and food - that gets consumed there, by thousands of people in festive tents, sponsored by beer companies!.

There are now various Octoberfest (or Oktoberfest) celebrations around the world, mostly involving beer and German food!.

Some beer companies also make special Octoberfest beers, based on the special types of malt that are harvested in the fall season!.

The festival is supposed to commemorate the fall harvest, to use up the grain and malt from last year's crop to make room for this year's harvest!.

The original "Oktoberfest" occurred in Munich, on October 12, 1810: For the commemoration of the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig (later King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen!.!.!.

Blah blah blah, it's a reason to drink and have a good time!.!.!.

EDIT: Roxy Foxy, you have to realize that the drinking age of 21 only applies in the U!.S!. The European Oktoberfest is in Germany, and they don't have the same laws!. It's OK for teens to drink beer there!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The locals in Munich fondly refer to Oktoberfest as ?die Wiesn“ because of its location, Theresienwiese, which was named after Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen!.
The historical background: the first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen!. The festivities began on October 12, 1810 and ended on October 17th with a horse race!. In the following years, the celebrations were repeated and, later, the festival was prolonged and moved forward into September!.

By moving the festivities up, it allowed for better weather conditions!. Because the September nights were warmer, the visitors were able to enjoy the gardens outside the tents and the stroll over “die Wiesen” or the fields much longer without feeling chilly!. Historically, the last Oktoberfest weekend was in October and this tradition continues into present times!.
