How do you feel about lowering the drinking age?!

Question: How do you feel about lowering the drinking age!?
With the law that raised the drinking age to 21 set to expire at 11:59 PM on 12/31/2008, do you think it should go down to and stay at, 18 again!.

Any view is welcome but I will tell you that the numbers of deaths related to drinking having quintupled since the raise, do to making drinking a taboo, should it be let to expire!.

I should know, I was one of those kids who did it a lot back then!.

also if it is let to expire, does it go back to 18 by default!?

also another question, if at the time it expires and no renewal is made… does this mean 18 year olds can now drink again!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I think it should be 18!. Most everyone I know, including myself, was drinking under age 21!. As the age of legal adulthood, being able to move out of mom & dad's and get your own place, join the military, sign a contact, vote, buy cigarettes, I think alcohol should be included in that 18-year-old package!.

But what is your source about this expiration thing please!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in London!. In England it's 18 to drink!. We are finding the more regulations we put on alcohol the worse drinking is!. I think people should chill!.!.!. let people make decisions!.!.!. they will soon learn

Making it an elusive thrill adds to the problem!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 doesn't run out!.

“The legal age for alcohol in the USA is 21 years old!. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 required all states to raise their minimum purchase and public possession of alcohol age to 21!. States that did not comply faced a reduction in highway funds under the Federal Highway Aid Act!. The U!.S!. Department of Transportation has determined that all states are in compliance with this act!. The national law specifically prohibits purchase and public possession of alcoholic beverages!. It does not prohibit persons under 21 (also called youth or minors) from drinking!. The term "public possession" is strictly defined and does not apply to possession for the following:

-An established religious purpose, when accompanied by a parent, spouse or legal guardian age 21 or older
-Medical purposes when prescribed or administered by a licensed physician, pharmacist, dentist, nurse, hospital or medical institution
-In private clubs or establishments
-In the course of lawful employment by a duly licensed manufacturer, wholesaler or retailer!.”

The US is the only country that has a 21-tear old drinking age!. My personal opinion is that if you're old enough to be married, you should be able to drink!.

It will never happen, in fact there is a law in the books to raise the current drinking age from 21 to 25!.

Every state has their own law, and laws don't expire, that is why in some states you can be thrown in jail for spitting!.

If the drinking age raises, so will the voting age!. It will be years, but eventually it will, and with that the driving age will rise to 18( this is already in the works)

A lot of laws are in effect that people don't know about, like the fact that by the year 2013, no incandescent light bulbs will be sold anymore, only fluorescent!. Even though Fluorescent light bulbs require placement in a toxic dump, not the regular trash like all other light bulbs!.

That was passed, how many people knew of it!?

Lot of laws are passed, and people have no idea until too late, that they were passedWww@FoodAQ@Com

This topic has pretty much been beaten to death!.

On one side is MADD and neo-prohibitionists!. You can identify them easily since they tend to say things like, "The law should be changed, alright! Change it to 25 [or 30, or 40, or ban it]!." Largely, these people's basis for such claims are based on religious extremism (similar to Osama, except with Christianity the focus so it's more accepted in the US mainstream), rather than a true love of mankind!.

Then, you have the largely rational group of people!. They recognize that when the US banned alcohol, they gave birth to the MOB!. Clearly, restrictive regulations beget worse crimes!. During prohibition, the fatalities from drinking increased 10 fold, due to unregulated distillation in backyards which ended up with high methanol levels (a dangerous poison)!. We don't have a binge drinking "epidemic" among teens because of poor enforcement of regulations!. We have the "epidemic" because of the extra coolness associated with breaking the law!. Had the law been 18, it would not be difficult at all to find alcohol and it would not be "necessary" to drink as much as possible when access is found!. Largely, underage parties lead to unsafe arrangements for transportation!. Had the people previously arranged to sleep at their friends' house, this would not be an issue!. This is something much easier to arrange with 21 year olds, since drinking is not taboo and many know someone who has their own apartment or house!. Hopefully if the law were 18 parents would be intelligent enough to allow their adult child's friends to sleep over if they are drunk; letting them drive would be wholly irresponsible -- and is what many do for fear of being "busted"!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
