Is this the regular reaction to alcohol?!

Question: Is this the regular reaction to alcohol!?
Well let me preface my query by stating that even though I'm 17, I'm Australian and the drinking age is only 18 here, thus drinking at my age is, while frowned upon, nothing to get excited about!. Particularly since the vast majority of my friends and acquaintances are already 18!.
Ok so I was relatively late to the drinking scene here, overcautious parents, lack of interest and a desire to excel at sports and school prevented that!. But the inevitable teenage exploration began one day when my friend and I were left alone as his family went to Melbourne for two weeks!.
So we purchased (him being 18) two eight packs of Bundaberg rum premixed, after my first sip I began to experience head spins!. Yet I persisted and the two of us drank the contents in a little under two hours!. Neither of us were overtly drunk, a little more jovial then normal perhaps but quite in control!. This led to a second experiment in that same period!. This time we invited a number of our friends over for a small party!. This time, emboldened by the previous lack of intoxication, I injested approximately 650 mL of Smirnoff Vodka, plus a beer, a Strongbow (some sort of cider) and a few sips of the various concoctions brewed by my friends over the course of about 5 hours!. According to our friend who didn't drink I was still completely coherent, and at no stage (though I had a decent hangover the next day) did I pass out or lose conciousness!. This really has me puzzled as not only did several online calculater's tell me that that was near the fatal dose for someone my size (obviously I didn't realise this before hand), but the next time I went to drink, I was spectacularly sick on a few Vodka Cruisers lol!.

So basically my long winded question boils down to- How come my body handles such different amounts of alchohol so differently depending on the occasion!.

P!.S- I'm 17, 183cm (6ft) and of a thin, though althletic build!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are various factors that determine your reactions to alcohol!.
