What is Sherry made of?!

Question: What is Sherry made of!?
Hi there,

Had my first nip of Sherry tonight :-P

And found it very sweet, almost syrupy, so wanted to know what Sherry is made from!?

I know Gin is made from Juniper Berries - wondering if Sherry's distinctive flavour is derived in a similar way!?

Thanks in advance :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Sherry is a fortified wine!. It is made from grapes!. The only place in the world that sherry can be made is in Jerez de la Frontera in southwestern Spain!. In Jerez there are many bodegas (where they make sherry)!. You can visit these bodegas, have a tour and then that is followed by a tasting!.
It used to be that anywhere fortified wine was made they could call it sherry!. Not so these days!. It has to come from Jerez de la Frontera!.
There are many types of sherry from very sweet to very dry!. A sherry that is very dry is called a fino!. My two favourites are semi dry!. An Amontillado and a Oloroso!.
I live not too far from Jerez in Andalucia and have been a few times!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
