In search of great fine spirits.?!

Question: In search of great fine spirits!.!?
I've recently had some Glenlivet 12 year old!. Scotch and I fell in love with the smokey flavor!. Convinced that I liked Scotch I tried to branch out and tried the Macallan 12 year old, but found the taste too much like Cognac (I do like Cognac, though)!.

I think I prefer a smokier taste, but I'm not sure!. My friend affectionately called me a traitor to Scotch, saying that perhaps bourbon was more my thing!. However, both of us are amateurs of fine spirits (we only recently turned twenty-one)!. So I am looking for a great, moderately priced, smokey spirit I can enjoy on its own!.

also, some tips on how to drink Scotch, Whiskey, Bourbon, or any other Spirits are welcome, too!.

Thanks in advance!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Drink scotch however you enjoy it!. I take it neat: straight from bottle to glass with just a touch of water to relax it!.

If you want smokey, try Islay Scotches!. You might not want to dive directly into Lagavulin or Ardbeg, but Bowmore and Bruichladdich would probably work!. It all comes down to how much you enjoy peat!.

One of my all time faves is Bowmore Dawn!. A bit tough to find sometimes!.

Less peaty and more smokey would put you in the Highlands, but there are so many that it can be tough to narrow down what's what!. Highland Park, Scapa, Arran and Glenrothes would be on my list!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Brian gives some good advice!. Another well known Islay malt is Laphroaig, which is INTENSELY peaty and probably too much so for someone just beginning with Scotch!. I know it's too much for me!

While sampling fine spirits, don't overlook Tequila!. Casa Vieja, Chinaco, and Don Julio are my favorites!. There's just as much variety and sublety of taste in a fine tequila as in any other spirit!. Have fun!Www@FoodAQ@Com
