Can I drink an alcoholic drink in a restaurant with a meal, if my parents buy it for me?!

I went into a restaurant called The Quay and my parents ordered me a Pimms with my meal!. The lady came up to me and asked me for ID, I said I was 17, and that my parents brought it for me and that it was with my meal!. However she said I was underage and could not have it, is this right!?!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can drink beer, wine or cider whilst eating a meal in a restaurant or an eating area of a pub, but not in the bar (and you must be accompanied by someone over 18)!.

Yes you can as long as you are 16 years old!. If your parents or carers or anyone who is 18 or over purchases you an alcholic drink you can have it if you are 16!. Some pubs will allow you to drink if you are below this age if purchased by an adult but in restaurants it is strictly just 16 year olds and 17 years olds!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, although you could have had beer, wine or cider!. Pimm's in gin-based, and as such they could have made it 'too strong' for you to handle (yeah, right)!

This young lady would not be even discussing this question if she was in the US or perhaps she would give a state for reference if she was!.

I distinctly remember being told you could have a drink with a meal if your parents bought it!.
technically pimms is a fairly weak drink watered down quite heavily with lemonade!. Not something that would affect most people just having one!. a can from tesco ready mixed

I think your parents were perfectly using their common sense and introducing you to alcohol in a controlled environment!. Whats better teenagers down the park downing forbidden alcohol or the odd glass with a meal with your parents!?
Women in the restaurant did not know her laws correctly and could have advised the correct drink allowed!. Did you have id to say your were 17 on you!? but maybe scared for her job though as often local councils send out under-age buyers to catch them out!. Those caught face heavy fines and also the person serving can be fined!.

if your parents have bought it for you then you should be able to drink it because it is not illegal to drink alcohol if you are under 18 its just illegal to purchase it so she shouldnt have stopped you however it is frowned apon and im sure that the restuarent can take the drink away if they give you a refundWww@FoodAQ@Com
