Is tipping considered selling?!

Question: Is tipping considered selling!?
I'm wanted to make homemade mead, but the process and materials can become a bit costly overtime!.!.!.!.since this would be home run, its federal law that I cannot sell it at all!.!.!.

so the question falls down to this!.!.!.if people donate money to me or tip me for it, is it still (in essence) considered selling the mead!? Or would i require a license!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It depends who you are making the mead for!.

If you are primarily making it for yourself and friends, then there is no real problem!.

If you are trying to sell it at a restaurant or a bar you may own, or be friends with the owner, then that's illegal!.

I believe the law says that you cannot accept money in exchange for home brewed alcohol!. That would include both selling and tip (presumably where the customer is allowed to determine the amount you receive)!.

If you were throwing some sort of party, you could simply have your guests supply the food and you supply the mead!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

taking money for it is selling it, no matter what you call it!. Even trading for it, could get you in trouble!.
Home brewing it may be costly, but not as much as buying it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I guess technically that could be illegal!. However, I doubt that the ATF will come busting down your door if you ask people to help out with costs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
