Why does beer have such a pungent odor?!
I love beer (especially imports); however, I noticed that when I walked back into a room containing my beer in a mug that I could immediately make out the smell of beer!. Does anyone know why beer has such a distinct and pungent odor from a chemical or other point of view!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's not the yeast as it is filtered from practically all beers!.
Chances are it's the hops!. Depending on the beer and the variety and amount of hops used, it can be overpowering!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hops, yeast, malts, whatever is used in it!. also note that different brews have different smells, depending on the ingredients used!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
