My boyfriend drinks half a fifth of alcohol a day..motivate him to stop?!
what things can i do besides recommending aa, to motivate h im to stop, hes not working right now i know he is depressed and he has to down literally atleast half a fifth a day to feel normal!.!.and stop the shakes!.!.!.

Before you do anything!. I would recommend you read "An Uncommon Drunk" by Jeff Herten, M!.D!. It is very informatative, and it certainly would help you to decide what is your next move!. You also might want to talk to a therapist for a different point of view!. AA meeting is NOT the only way!.

He will have to wheen himself off, drink less and less each day!. till he get off!. The shakes are the D!.T's!. I worked at an alcohol detoxification project, it is sad because those of them who won't stop on their own get very ill, some get sores that won't heal some get blood shot eyes from ruptured veins and some even drink anything that contains alcohol when they cannot get the real thing!.I mean cleaning liquids and
windex window cleaner, cough syrup and the list goes on!. Some get cirrhosis of the liver and die!. Some start having hallucenations (seeing things that are not real but seem real because of alcoholism!.) At different stages the disease takes worse turns!.
Some were given a pill each morning so that if they drink they will get violently ill!. It is the only way to help them stop!. A Doctor can give him this but he might have to be in a half way house because they usually won't take it on their own!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If he doesn't help himself or doesn't take you up on your offer to help then it's time for you to leave him!. With addiction unfortunately they need to help themselves and you can't do it for him!. If he isn't working then how is he getting money to pay for the alcohol!? You don't want to enable him by buying it for him!.

It's not really your place to get him to stop drinking, unless he becomes violent towards you!. Otherwise it doesn't sound like a problem to me, but if you wabt him to drink less, everytime he starts drinking, just sex him up, that'll keeo him occupied!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
He will not stop, and you pestering him to do so may only make him drink more!. I do not intend to be offensive, but perhaps you should consider recommending rehab and then moving on from this gentleman before you get in any further!.!.!. or perhaps not!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

He should find a hobby that really interests him so he can put his mind to that so he is keeping his brain occupied and over time will reduce the need for alcohol!. also his motivation should be you ;)Www@FoodAQ@Com
