What are the best ingredients to infuse vodka with?!
I am going to be giving homemade (sort of) flavor infused vodka for Christmas this year!. What are some good flavor combinations to use!? Obviously fruity is good, but I'd like to try some more unusual ones (someone suggested peach and lavendar or green tea and ginger)!.
This is also my first time trying infusing, any tips and tricks would be great!Www@FoodAQ@Com

vanilla is always good, and for a mix it works with cinnamon, coffee bean, and most fruits!. mint leaves are also good for adding to mixes!. an easy Christmas recipe would be to let a dozen candy canes soak in vodka for a week or 2!. sticking with the Christmas theme, infuse ginger and cinnamon sticks covered in a generous amount of brown sugar; you'll get gingerbread vodka!.
go wild!. the finished product rarely tastes bad, no matter how weird the combinations are!. try something exotic or unusual, like papaya, chocolate, licorice, figs, anything!.
also, some flavors are harder to infuse then others!. melons, nuts/beans, and anything with a weak flavor (like lavender) will take longer!. berries are the easiest, because they have the strongest flavor packed into the most porous material!. adding sugar to the mix helps draw the flavor out, and also sweetens the finished product!.
the stronger the alcohol, the more flavor can be extracted, but you'll end up having to water it down later so this is a compromise!.
run it through a coffee filter before bottling, because there will probably being floating residue!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honestly, the sky's the limit on this one!. If it's for you, anything with a flavor that you like can work!. Fruit, tea, berries, herbs, spices, bacon (no, I'm not kidding about the bacon)!.
Take a stroll through a good liquor store and look at their vodka section for inspiration!. A really nifty example of some unique infused vodkas are those made by Modern Spirits:

You could make Limoncello with lemon zest!. I've heard it's delicious and makes great gifts!. I know you said unusual but there are tons of good limoncello recipes out there!. I've heard the longer it sits to infuse the better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
