If you are buying from a major chain store who gets good prices because they can buy in bulk, then you can buy a decent P!.N!. for $6 if you buy a few and try them out!. You have to kiss a few frogs to find a prince!. That is what I specialize in!. If you are short on cash and not a Connoisseur, here is one you might like!. Forrestville P!.N!. $3 at most major chain stores!. Although it is the Forrestville Cab that is their strongpoint!. For $3 it is as good as most $10-$15 cabs after it breathes a little bit!.
For $14- $15 you can find some adequatet P!.N!.'s and a few gems!. MacMurray Ranch from their sonoma or central coast vineyard is in that price range and is worth writing home about!. Superb!. For a 'few' $'s more ($35) you can get the MacMurray Ranch Russian River P!.N!. which will just plain make ya happy to be alive!.

It is very specific to the climates it adapts to grow well in such as Burgundy in France, Washington in the US, Tasmania in Australia!.
It is safe to say that there is NO average bottle of Pinot!.
Commercial wineries have to bulk handle their grapes, and due to the fragile nature of Pinot Noir it is rarely possible to make a wine of any significance!.
Pinot Noir has achieved its status because of the small production wineries such at Romanee Conti, Ramonet, Morey etc!.
These select wines come from vineyards that have been classified over centuries, and are recognised as being the best of the breed!.
