The difference between single malt and blends is negligible if you or your friends don't know what the difference is!. There are plenty of blends out there that are of great quality!. Single malt does not not mean higher quality!. It is just more expressive of the region in Scotland it is from!.

Having said that, Chivas Regal and Johnny Black are both good blends!. If you want to go with the "crowd pleaser" then go with the Chivas!. It is one of the most popular because it is very easy drinking!. The Johnny black is going to have a little more earth to it!.

It all depends on your palate!. Some people prefer a smooth scotch, others prefer something a little more structured!. Ultimately I'd try both if I were you and make the decision on your own tastes!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Personally, I've always favored Johnnie Walker!. It's been my favorite whiskey for a while!. Some of my friends have preferred Chivas Regal!. It all really comes down to personal taste preferences and such!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'm not sure of your location, but I'd try a good Canadian Whisky!. Forty Creek makes a very good blended whisky, and Gibson's Finest or Gibson's Rare are also good blends!Www@FoodAQ@Com

try Jameson's Irish whisky its nice and smooth and easy to drinkWww@FoodAQ@Com

Chivas 12 and Johnnie Black are pretty good blends, and at that price they're just about the best you'll find!.

If you want some alternatives, and I don't know what the price diff will be your way:

I'm fond of Famous Grouse and Bushmills Black Bush (an Irish whisky for variety, if you want)!.

Glenmorangie 10YO, Balvenie 10 or 12, Aberlour 10 are all good single malts that are fairly inexpensive!. These are sweeter and generally smoother than JW Black, which is smokey!.

So your first instinct is fine, I'd pick the JW over Chivas personally, I think it's a better whisky and it does well enough as a mixer or neat/rocks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
