I bartended for about 5 years, managed bars for another 5, and now I sell wine and spirits to bars!. I can honestly tell you that you can name a drink whatever the hell you want, just don't expect a bartender to know how to make it!.

Many drinks that become popular will eventually be known around the country, but there is always debate about the "right way" to make it!. I've seen about a dozen different ways to make a Tom Collins or a Sex on the Beach!.

I wouldn't put much stock into trusting a bartender to know what the name of a drink is by telling them ingredients!. I've found only about 1 in 10 bartenders actually know what they are doing, the rest just act like it!. A good bartender will not argue with you how to make a drink or what it is called!. They will leave that up to the douchbags on the other side of the bar!

Name it whatever you want and call it your own!Www@FoodAQ@Com

There are few combinations that haven't been tried, but a fair number don't get popular or get names!. You could look up your primary ingredient online and see what drinks you find that use it, to see if your recipe is out there but otherwise it would be pretty hard to tell!.

If it turned out your drink was already a named drink somewhere, you could just say you'd heard it called <your drink name>!. It's fairly common that some cocktails are called one thing somewhere and known by another name somewhere else!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Go to a sophisticated bar or something and ask for a cocktail with your ingredients!. If the bartender is like, "Oh, you want a!.!.!." then you know it exists, otherwise, ask if he's ever heard of anything like that before!. Good Luck!
