My Dad Left Me A Lot Of Whisky?!

Question: My Dad Left Me A Lot Of Whisky!?
He called it whisky but most of the bottles say "bourbon"!. Name brands are Ballantine's, Old Grandad, Early Times, Virginia Gentleman, Kentucky Gentleman, Seagrams VO, Seagrams 7!. All are 40-50 years old!. None of these have been opened but on some of the bottles the seals have dried up and come unattached from the bottles!. Some have evaporation!. Are these still fit to drink!? Or pour over a fruitcake!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Look the specific brand names up on ebay!. There's a lot of collectible alcohol bottles for sale there and you can get an idea if something might have more collector value to it or if you might as well drink it!.

Bourbon is a type of American whiskey that was distilled in the Bourbon region of Kentucky and part of Tennessee!. The name refers to the Bourbon river, which has a limestone bed that filters the iron out of the water!. That and the use of a sour mash (re-using some of the mash from a previous batch on a new one) is what gives Bourbon whiskey its distinctive, consistent taste!.

As an avid whiskey drinker, I would love to have someone give me a collection like that!. But, I would probably drink it all, regardless of how much it was worth!. I would probably keep the bottles, though, and use them to decorate my bar!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ballantines is a Scotch blend!. The white and blue label is the basic version!.

Old GrandDad and Kentucky Gent are Bourbons (a subcategory of whisky)!. They're pretty basic stuff unless they say "single barrel" on them!.

Early Times is a whisky blend that is almost a Bourbon, it's pretty standard stuff!.

Seagrams VO and 7 are fairly cheap blends!.

They're all straight liquor (40% alcohol or more) and they won't really go bad!. The evaporation is pretty common and it will reduce the alcohol levels somewhat!. If they're more than half empty I'd pitch them, otherwise they're likely ok to pour on a fruitcake or even taste!. I doubt any are worth anything, the brands are very common and unless they're limited versions of something they probably aren't valuable except as keepsakes or curiosities!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Bourbon is a type of Whiskey, it will not age once bottled, but it will not go bad either!. Go ahead and drink them!. None of the names you gave are super premium whiskey, but they're not all bargain labels either!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It is unlike they will be "off" and I think only a person who knows his whiskeys will be able to tell you!. (bottle by bottle)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes sure, drink them on my guarantee!.It's a fortuneWww@FoodAQ@Com

Aged liquor is the best!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
