Does the 1836'rs really offend?!

Question: Does the 1836'rs really offend!?
I live in Houston and we got a soccer (futbol) team about 2 years ago from California!. When the team came over a name change was going to occur!. The original name chosen for the team was the 1836'rs in reference to Texas' revolution to become our own country from Mexico!. The name had to be changed because LULAC stepped in and said it was offensive to the Mexican Americans!. If they are Americans why is it offensive!? We are all Americans here, we have a football team with the name Redskins for goodness sakes!. It isn't like the date is a racial slur or demeaning!. If we all are Americans can't we all just stop being so dang sensitive!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
I don't see a reason why it should offend and I am half latino!. It is a date that many people in the state of Texas are proud of, they are the only state to be able to claim that they had soverignty at any point in time!. I look at it much like the San Francisco 49'rs!.!.!. that of course is in reference to the gold rush that led many people over to California!. However all of the immigrants from Asia were simply treated like dirt and made to work in those mines for some of the people who went there who were already rich!. plus the Native Americans who were removed from areas that they grew up in!.!.!. I personally have no problem with any of said names, 49'rs redskins or whathave you!. As long as there aren't any teams named the Honkies, Wetbacks etc then I don't see why people would be in a uproar about it!. I guess some people are just too Politically Correct and it shows in stupid things like thisWww@FoodAQ@Com
