A more permanent record is to remove labels from wine bottles and put them in a scrapbook!. Some labels come off very easy, some not so easy!. Three methods we use are:
1) In a tall pot, (a spaghetti pot works well), submerge a wine bottle in boiling water*, (10 to 30 seconds should be long enough)!. The label should either fall off or you should be able to peel it off carefully!. There should be enough glue residue on the wine label to be able to paste it onto a sheet of school notebook paper!. If not, just tape it on!. On the page, write down all the information that seems pertinent!.
2) If the label doesn't come off by boiling water, you may have to use a metal spatula or some kind of metallic straight edge!. When the wine bottle is good and hot*, carefully try to scrape the label off!. Most of the time, you can scrape a little, pull a little, and continue in that manner, until the wine label comes off!. Other times, the wine label will come off looking like an accordion!. Carefully pull the wine label flat and paste or tape it on your paper!.
3) If that doesn't work, say a few words and copy the label on the wine bottle!. We use our printer!. Position the wine bottle on the printer so you can scan as much of the wine label as possible!. Put a dark cloth over the wine bottle (a blanket or towel works well) to darken the screen!. You may have to scan the wine label a couple of times, adjusting the wine bottle in a better position, to get the best picture!. Then print, paste or tape the wine label onto your paper!. No matter which method you use, collect the pages in a binder and you have just started your wine scrapbook!. In a binder, you will be able to reposition the pages as you expand your collection!.
