Since you're a beer drinker, you should probably avoid sweet wines, they'll gag you!. I like Shiraz, it's a nice medium bodied wine and not too dry!. The best one I've tried so far is Alice White from Australia!. My rule of thumb is to never spend more than $6-$7 US, because if it's gross, it's a waste of money!. Don't buy anything really cheap either or you'll have a wicked hangover!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

"Good" will be relative to your own palette!. The only advice I can give you is to try as much as you can and remember what you like about certain wines and what you dislike (e!.g!., flavors, fruitiness, dry, sweet, full-bodied, medium)!. That will help you determine what types of red you might like!. As a starting point, I'd get a bottle of each and just compare the different tastes!.

I'd try comparing the different types made by Red Truck (It's a good, and inexpensive wine)!. All under $11
1) Cabernet Sauvignon
2) Merlot
3) Zinfandel

Go to your local winery or take a trip over the border to New York or Northeast, PA!. There you can taste several wines and decide which you prefer!. Some like dry or semi-sweet!. I go for the sweet myself!. Just don't be intimidated by the "wine snobs"!. Drink the wine you like, not what someone else feels you should drink!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I don't know what you consider inexpensive, or good, but Ontario would not be good, at any price (no offense)!. Canada does make some world-class sweet ice wines, but that is not what you are looking for!. Your best "value" would be Australian Shiraz!. It's pretty foolproof at lower price points!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

go for a lite red - italian pinot nero, italian nero d'avola - either go to wineries in your area and sample or go to a wine store and let them know what you're looking for and they will help you and remember you when you come in the next week and try something new - start a relationship with a wine store vs!. a grocery storeWww@FoodAQ@Com

monalisa knows diddly squat about ontario wines!.!.!.!.!.!.the biggest problem is that the good ones are expensive compared to comparative imported ones!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.why not take a field trip to vineland and sample!.!.!.just make sure you are not the driver!.!.!.!.!.!.yes our ice wine is the best in the world !.!.!.:) fact!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Check in on some the specialty wine shops in your area!.!.!. they often have tastings!. Wine shops know that an informed buyer is a continuous buyer who will buy more than pinots and other popularized brands!. It makes a different sort of date too!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Personally, I like Shiraz!. It's relatively mild and isn't too dry!. Most of them are also reasonably priced!. I'm not sure if any Shiraz is produced in Ontario though!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
