Wine is a matter of taste!. When I started drinking wine seriously, I bought wine based on the label!. While I don't recommend this approach, it will give you an idea of what tastes good and what appeals to you!. Find a good wine shop and tell them what you like!. Some wine shops also have wine tastings!. It may cost you a couple bucks for a selection of wines, but it will be worth it!. They can make excellent recommendations based on what you tell them!.
One very important thing to remember!.!.!.wine does not have to be expensive to be good!. If it tastes good to you, it doesn't make a difference how much it costs!. I drink my wine from a box and tastes just as good as the bottle stuff!. But I also buy a bottle of my favorites every now and then!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Honestly, it might be a good idea to break yourself in with some wine "coolers", or wine "spritzers" (White wine mixed with 7 up)!. Starting out light will begin to acquire a taste for the "vino"!.
If you want to jump right in, try St!. Michelle - Riesling!. It's sweet, and I must say one of my favorite wines EVER!. It would also be a good idea to "season" yourself with some red wine, so you can get a feel for what you like best!. Red wines are served at room temperature, and take on MUCH more of the taste of the grape!. I would recommend a Cabernet instead of a Merlot to start out!.
