Heavy Drinker. Do you think he needs help ?!
My friend drinks every night, most of the time by himself and he usually gets pretty drunk!. Do you think he needs help !?Www@FoodAQ@Com

HE NEEDS HELP!? HE MUST HAVE HELP!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Is your friend my ex-husband!? Just kidding!. Not to make light of your situation at all, just to say that, yes, it is a problem, and it was enough of one for him that he lost his wife!. He became abusive when he drank, or when sober and confronted about his drinking!.
If your friend drinks enough to get drunk every single day then there's a problem!. What sort of quality of life is that!? One other answerer said that your friend will most likely deny a problem and tell you he can quit when and if he wants!. Unfortunately, that's true!. Until he recognizes that it's creating a problem, he will not want to quit and, until he wants to quit, his chances of success are slim to none!. Be there for him when he's ready!.
In the meantime, maybe help by suggesting things to do that don't/can't involve drinking!. How about participating in sports, doing some hiking, scuba night dives, etc!? The difficult part is, a drinker will want to either bring or buy alcohol for any event!.
Be as supportive as you can and, as gently as you can, remind him of how many better things he could be doing with a clear head!.
Good luck to you and your friend!. It's a hard road for both of you!. Be his support, but remember the ~responsibility~ is his alone!. Don't let it destroy you when he gets angry and doesn't want the help!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I would say that he needs help!. But the frustrating thing is, he's the only one who can really help himself!. As his friend, it is hard to watch someone destroy himself, but all you can really do is be there for him!.
At a time when he is not drunk or drinking, you may be able to sit him down and tell him that you are worried about him, and if he needs help you are there to help him!. But it is possible that he will tell you he is fine!. In which case, there is not much you can do!.
If he says he agrees, he needs help, there are places you can go to start!. Alcoholics Anonymous is for those who have a desire to stop drinking!. For you, there is Al-Anon, for those who are affected by someone else's drinking!. Their websites may have resources for you both, including where a meeting near you is taking place!.
Best of luck to you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Drinking every night and getting drunk every night aren't good and yes, he needs help BUT he's not going to listen to you or anybody else until he decides himself that he's ready to do something!. All you can do is let him know you're there if and when he's ready to do something about it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Of course he needs help! Being married to an alcoholic for 7 years, I know he does!. But, sadly and unfortunately, there is nothing you can do for him!. He has to do it on his own!. Be willing to bet his answer when you suggest it, if you have, is "I can quit whenever I want"!.
Like most diseases, alcoholism is something that can only be treated with professional help!.
Good luck to you and you have my prayers!

Drinking itself isn't bad--okay, so maybe there are health concerns, but there's health concerns with eating cheese burgers, and we don't send people to rehab for getting a Whopper!. If you like to drink, and enjoy drinking, and it isn't hurting anyone, what's the problem!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
