What is a wine ring for?!

Question: What is a wine ring for!?
I was given a silver wine key set as a wedding present and There is a sterling silver ring with a velvety soft inside!. So the soft side is next to the bottle!. It slips over the neck of the bottle!. But what does it do!?

it isn't tight on the bottle, it slips!. It doesn't seem to do anything and it's not as if open bottles stick around that long!. Anyone know what it is for!? It's "use"!?!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
You can put the wine ring over the neck of the bottle to prevent dripping down the side of the bottle after you pour the wine!. They work great!.

All it does is sit on the neck and stop drips running down the side of the bottle!. This is important, especially with red wine, if you're wearing white cuffs or if you want the label to look nice (no wine marks on it)!. Naturally the ring itself looks nice too!.!. you'll often see people just tie a serviette around the bottle neck which serves the same purpose!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I have got one as well and as far as I can make out, it is to stop any drips of wine going down the bottle and marking the surface that the bottle is stood on!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Stops the dripping from ruining your new linen tablecloth!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Incase you want to marry it!Www@FoodAQ@Com
