Should the drinking age be lowered?!
Answers:
I think at first it would be a free for all at the liquor stores!. However, after the initial "honeymoon period" it would die down!. I think that more college students wouldn't get all riled up about alcohol and potentially harm themselves, and not seek proper help!.
So yes I am in favor of it being lowered to 18, and I am 24 and didn't start drinking until I was 20!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am personally all for lowering the drinking age, however, I don't necessarily think that will solve the problem!. I think America is too Puritanical and that's where underage drinking problems stem from!. We raise our kids to see drinking as a taboo, therefore, they don't know anything about it or how to be responsible and because it's such a no-no abuse it!. If we took away the mysticism of drinking and all the "bad" associated with it, I really think kids wouldn't be so prone to abusing alcohol and getting in trouble like we see!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
People who want to drink and are underage are going to!. People who smoke and do drugs still do them whether they are legal or of age or not!. Raising the age limit may sway people's judgment to doing it less but all in all people are going to do what they want and drink and drive, do drugs, smoke and whatever else if they choose to!. So my answer would have to be yes!. Yes, because people are going to do what they wish and because if you are able to vote at 18 and choose to die for your country then you should be able to make the adult decision to drink or not!. You think that you are adult enough to do some things then you should be legally responsible to do as you choose!. Raising the legal age to drink is not going to stop everyone from drinking and it won't stop the people who are way over the age of 21 to continue to drink and drive!. Drinking and Driving is ridiculous no matter the age and just because you are 18 or 21 doesn't mean that you can't still kill someone in another vehicle by being stupid behind the wheel!. So, rock on with lowering the legal drinking age, maybe it will help some people stop before they start!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I believe that the statistic was that drunk-driving deaths have gone down in the 18-21 group!. However, I'll also point out that the same group had a lowered amount of deaths in 1983, the year before the law was enacted!. You'd think that in 1983, all the 18-21 year olds would be celebrating the fact they can continue to drink, possibly dying in the process!. also, general automobile deaths are down, not just drunken teenager ones!. I'd say that the rate of drunk driving deaths in 18-21 year olds has not gone down any more than the general population!. It is down, but only due to an overall downward trend -- stricter driving laws, better car safety (remember air bags in 1983!? didn't think so; what about the boat style steering!? yeah, we have made cars safer to drive since 1983)!.
Now, I agree that the law should be 18, but now is not the time to do that!. What is wrong with the drinking in the US is the culture!. Everyone who is of drinking age tells everyone under the drinking age not to drink!. They expect that to be the end of discussion!. I told them not to drink, therefore they will not!. How about answering their question!? I see here on Y!A all the time, "How much of XYZ will get me drunk!? I'm 16, 110lbs" and then 50% of the replies are "Wait until you're 21"!. How is that helpful!? The kid is going to drink anyways, how about telling them what to expect and how much is a good amount to have, rather then letting them blindly guess that a couple handles of vodka might get them buzzed (honestly, some kids would think that is about right, give or take a handle)!.
Fact is that 80% of 20 year olds have had alcohol!. And yet they are not allowed to buy it, or drink it!? I think someone is pretty damn naieve if they think there isn't an underage drinking culture!.
How about fostering moderation!? Go look at Europe!. They have kids drinking, sure!. They get trashed!? Absolutely!. Their parents give a ****!? Probably!. Do they end up being functional adults!? You bet!. And here's where the US is different!. Any sign of underage drinking is instant, "Well, you'll kill all your brain cells and grow up with a drunken bastard child to work for!." Not very realistic!.
Basically, that's my rant!. Our generation of parents and educators wish to dismiss the notion of underage drinking and say that "21 means 21" and "Just say no!." They believe these canned messages mean something and that the kids will actually pay attention!. By exaggerating claims on the negative effects of alcohol while providing no possible benefits or reasons for drinking, kids are left feeling that this is some sort of taboo thing I shouldn't do -- but I must do it to be cool!. And now you're left with kids doing stupid **** for no real reason, it all could've been prevented just with a little realistic education and, honestly, letting your kid try a beer or glass of wine with a meal!. Somehow if your parents offer you a drink, it removes all the taboo nature from it!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

On the contary, it should be increased!. If you lower it to 18 then 13 and 14 year olds will be seeking it illegally, which seems to already be the case!.
Military service is OPTIONAL nobody puts a gun to those kids' heads and tells them they have to sign up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think the drinking age is good as it is but i don't understand why you can legally have a drink at 16 but you can't buy it until your 18!. Just seems odd!.
I think that's the only thing that needs to be changed!. Both ages should be the same!.

I HAVE BEEN DRINKING SONCE I WAS 13 (NOW 15) AND I HAVE NEVER BEEN SICK, AND HARDLY HAVE HANGOVERS SO I CAN HANDLE MY DRINK TOO :DWww@FoodAQ@Com

I don't think it should be lowered!. it is at certain ages becuase when you're 18 to 21 you body is able to take it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Think the age should be increased to maybe 30 since most today do not have much common sense and we do have enough nuts on the street already!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Make everything 18!. If voting and military are 18 how is alcohol any different!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
The drinking age should not be lowered!. Unless you want more stupid kids in jail than there already is!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
why!? since most adults can't handle it responsibly!.!. what makes one think that a kid can!?
