When you buy a single beer at a convenience store, why do they put it in a brown bag?!
Answers:
In MA, you use a brown bag on all alcohol purchases (though the customer can request the bag not be used)!. [side note: this is why we call them 'packies' because they package your alcohol in a bag for you]!.
The reason is that when you are transporting it if you were to get stopped the police would know that you did not have any intention of drinking it in the car!. You can skip the bag on a case of beer, since it will be closed!. A 6 pack should be bagged, since the beers are freely accessible!. With liquor, a bag is a good idea, but the police can tell by the seal -- same with wine!.
A single beer is even more suspicious than a 6 pack, so it should be wrapped!. Generally, drinking in public is not legal!. If you were to drink it in public and the police could tell it was beer, they could stop you from doing so (pour it out)!. But, if its wrapped they only suspect you are drinking in public and need to act based on your ability to function (if they see you falling over or walking into traffic, they could stop you for that but not drinking out of a bag)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's the law in most places that you can't carry an uncovered alcohol container out of a store!. I have no idea why this is, but every store around here puts any kind of alcohol in a bag!. The one exception seems to be boxed multi-packs - I guess on the theory that the individual containers are already covered!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
So you can hold it between your legs or in your hand with out it freezing you,you also can drink it out of a lil bag with out your hand being froze, you wouldn't want it shaken up and pop rolling around in a bigger bag!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
How else would you have to carry the beer!?
I think the cashier person just assumed that you're going to drink the beer, because you only bought 1 beer!. Because drinking in public is illegal, hence they give you the single beer in a brown bag!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It has something to do with it being in a car and out of its original package when it comes to illegal transportation of alcohol!. If it is in the bag and you are stopped your chances of being cited for this are less!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
They figure if you only have money for one beer, you prolly gonna go around the back of the store and drink it and it will help keep your hand warm a bit while youre sitting out there!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I don't know the specific reason but by law stores are required to bag all alcoholic beverages, unless its like a 24 or bigger pack that would not fit a bagWww@FoodAQ@Com
It could be confused as an open intoxicant if you just have one in your hand, which will attract the wrong attention!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
