Is it a good idea to have a drink to help to ease my nerves?!

Question: Is it a good idea to have a drink to help to ease my nerves!?
Tomorrow, i've got to do a presentation, which means i have to stand up in front of a huge audience and talk for around 10 minutes!. I'm dreading it! I have very little confidence in doing these kinds of things, and i tend to get myself in such a panic, that my mind goes blank and i start shaking and even stuttering at times, which is just awful! But i was thinking of having a couple of glasses of alcohol before hand just to make me feel calmer, and give me more confidence!. But then i don't know whether this is a good idea because i don't want it to become like a regular thing where i can't do anything without having a drink beforehand!. But i'm so scared you know!. Terribly scared, and a little tipple does give me more confidence!.!.!.!.!.!.!.so what should i do!?!?!?!?!?!? Please help! Need some advice!.

Yes, well, I was a very nervous child but it all comes with practice and I ended up doing it for a living!. Do not drink!. You will still have flows of adrenalin and there is nothing you can do about it!. However, here are some facts you need to know to help you overcome your nerves:
a) No one will be listening!. The guys will be thinking about sex, the girls about shopping!.
b) They will stop paying attention to you after about 20 seconds
c) You can speed up this process by quoting statistics at the start of your speech!.
d) Look into their mean little eyes as you talk!. They are miles away!.

One MC at a function I spoke at first told me that my speech had been cancelled!. In a state of relief I tucked into a hearty dinner, then he said this had in fact been a lie, he did not want to see the food wasted!. But it went OK!. Yours will go OK too!. Good luck!. xx

Bad idea, I too have a presentation to do shortly and I also dread it!. My advice is to fix on a spot at the room and stay with it, occasionally looking at the people around you, speak clearly and as slow as you possibly can and you should be fine!. Good luck with it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try giving you're presentation to a few of you're close friends (open minded only)!. Ask for their opinion!. If this doesn't work, a stiff drink would help ease you're nerves, but don't drink so much you become a babbling idiot!. There is a club called Jay Cees (spelling!?) that helps with this sort of thing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

How about a couple glasses of water!? Calms me down enough!. Give yourself a pep talk and prepare your speech!. Know what point you want to give across!. Wear your best smile & attitude and I promise you it'll go great!. Have confidence in you, or no one will! Alcoholism is bad, definitely not the way out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can have a wine, wine is good for health and it is definitely pleasing as well!.

But one of my friend told me that it is essential to use a wine breather before drinking wine to get the best effects!.

So, I bought one from crazyaboutgadgets!.com

I think you can try one too, it is very relaxingWww@FoodAQ@Com

If I had a presentation and had a few drinks before, it would last longer than ten minutes!.
Concentrate on a good presentation, and don't fork around!.!. Waffling gets you nowhere - have a few after instead!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Smoking weed or drinking before it will not help!.
You're best doing it completely straight!.
Peolpe may smell the booze off you, that wont look good at say 10am !?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Nope you may become an alcoholic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Never drink wine!. If you do, you′ll forget everything!. Enjoy just a beer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Hi Vera,
Know the feeling well!.

I play in an amatuer band, & also have a stage part in a couple of weeks!. Four performances in three days!.

At rehearsals, I take a small bottle of lucozase, liberally topped up with vodka!.

This cuts both ways!.
Sure, I am much more relaxed about what I'm supposed to say & do, but does not help in remembering all the words when on stage!.

I am bunkered both ways, but find on balance a swig of something does calm the nerves, and as long as you don't embibe too much, it helps, so go for it!.

Giving a presentation is a bit like going on stage, it naturally makes people nervous!.

Having a drink is not the answer, when your nervous it gets your adrenalin flowing, this keeps your mind active and clear, alcohol will just dull your thought process and make it more likely to make you fumble over your words!.

The answer to giving a good presentation is the same as acting on stage, practise your lines over and over, into a tape recorder if you have one!.

Even the best speakers use notes, don't write the whole thing out, just a list of stab points, if you then lose your way during your presentation you can refer to those points, knowing they are there will also help you confidence!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd say don't do it -- you need your wits about you when speaking to the audience!. And, you know, practice makes perfect!.

What's the worst thing that will happen to you if you goof up!? And how will this be better if you've got a buzz on!?

Embrace your nervousness, but then put it down and say "We're not putting up with any nonsense right now; I'll have to be nervous after the speech!."

AFTER the speech, you can reward yourself with a drink or two!!

Practice the presentation in front of some of your colleagues, if you can, or family members, or even the dog!. Then try to get that feeling back when you talk to the audience!.

And remember, the audience WANTS to hear what you say -- they wouldn't be there otherwise!.

Hell Yeah Vera, just do a couple of shots of whatever!. It won't hurt!. I know just how you feel!. Please be warned,in time you need to seek different coping skills to deal with your bad nerves!. I feel your pain!. My advice to you is to do a couple shots of whiskey, or whatever and get the hell through your dilemma!. If your drinking gets out of hand seek help!. I have lived a lifetime of fighting drug and alcohol abuse!. Trust me you don't want that battle to fight!. Just do what you need to do tomarrow, and seek other options for future problems!. I read your question and felt the need to connect with you!. Good luck, sweetness!. I hope that I've helped you!. xoxoxox ~Voodoo~Www@FoodAQ@Com
