Answers:
Jose Cuervo will do!. Sauza also is good!.
If you wanna make your recipe PREMIUM go for Patron SilverWww@FoodAQ@Com

First, to get the correct tequila experience, don't drink anything that doesn't say 100% agave (like junk like regular Cuervo or Sauza)!. These are cheap poorly made tequilas designed to sell to college kids to get drunk!. They are only 51% real tequila, and the rest are fillers like corn syrup and grain alcohol (and thus the hangover the next day is born)!.

The aging has a lot to do with the color and flavor, so remember how the aging is labeled:

Blanco (sometimes called silver, because it's totally clear) - no aging
Reposado - (sometimes called gold) minimally aged at least 2 months, but can be up to 1 year
Anejo - (brown in color) heavily aged, minimally 1 year but less than 3 years!.

Generally the longer it's aged, the smoother and less harsh the flavor AND the more expensive!.

Then look at how you're going to drink it:

Slammed shots - go for a blanco!. Anything else is a waste of flavor and $$

Sipped shots (how I recommend it) - go for anejo only and savor with no salt and a squeeze of lime!. Chilled or on the rocks is good as is straight!.

Margarita - anejo is a waste, especially if the place isn't using fresh squeezed lime juice!. Go for blanco or reposado!.

In the around or under (depends on what part of the country you're in) $20 range for a 750ml bottle, I would recommend:

1800
Cabrito
Chimayo
Dos Manos
Puerto Vallarta

If you're willing to go up a little in price, but still come in well under the $40ish range of the higher end ones like (overrated) Patron, try some of these:

Cazadores
Pura Sangre
Centinela
Arette
Don Fernando
Tres Generacions

Patron, while a decent tequila is not what most people would call a "good price" and it's over-priced because of it's "hip" factor!. You can get better for less with most of what I named above!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

ok what you want for a good tguila is for it to be made from only blue agave and depending on its age a different colour 2 months is white 11 months is a very light gold and then intpo the years it gets darker!. if you want the proper stuff you have to get a mexican brand unfortunatly, all the ones you normally find are very poor in comparison and often coloured to make them look older!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mmm, my national drink!!

I love Olmeca tequila but not sure you can get it in the UK, and let's face it for cooking you don't want to go splash out on some expensive brand!.

Jose Cuerva is also good - go for the gold one as it has a more mellow, wooded taste that the diesel-like white one!!

I don't know what's available in the UK but my favourites are Herradura and Cazadores
