What's the next step after bartending school?!

Question: What's the next step after bartending school!?
I just completed the school a couple of weeks ago and have worked two parties since!. Should I lie on my resume and say I have 2 years experience or just try to work more parties!? Any other ideas!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

As a restaurant manager, I have hired people right out of bar school!. A lot of people will hire based on personality and enthusiasm!. I can teach you how to be a good bartender but there is not much I can do if your personality is lacking!. However, I would not hire you for busy dinner shifts so you should be prepared to work days only until you gain more experience!. You might also apply for bar back which gives you an opportunity to learn the company culture, food and drinks!. Under no circumstances should you lie!. I will hire if you don't have much experience but never if you falsify information on your application or resume!.
Good luck to you!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Don't lie on resume - Bar owners could tell on the first night if you been on the business for 20 minutes or 20 years!. Besides it's bad karma!.

Keep doing those parties - That's how I started (ah good times)!. It's a great experience and something you use to build your resume!. Have at least 5 or 6 under your belt - don't forget to get names for references!.

Go to Staples or a stationary store!. Make up some business cards!. Put them in a rocks glass when you are working or spread around to advertise!.

I understand that party gigs are not permanent - On your free nights hit up local collage bars for guest bartender night!.

The more experience you have and more you have on paper - the better the chance you will get hired by your future boss!.

Good luck -

bartending school is a waste of money!. every restairant ive worked in doesnt hire outside bartrenders!. you have to work in the restairant and work your way to bartending, you dont learn anything you need to know in bartending school, everything uyou need to know you learn from experience!. i had a manager that would throw away applictions that said bartending school on themWww@FoodAQ@Com

Go to a bar and ask for a Barback position!. If it's on a popular street with other bars and clubs, they may want work from you as well!. Otherwise if applying, go to a bar that is not so busy!. But that will = less tips!.

Good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com
