A corner shop near by sold me 6 cans of lager which have expired 'use by' dates ? ?!

Question: A corner shop near by sold me 6 cans of lager which have expired 'use by' dates !? !?
I took a few sips of the first can, and the beer tasted a bit rank and tangy, and was giving off a rather musky aroma - the after taste left wasn't quite how I remembered it (ive been drinking this czech lager for a month now, its great)!.

I immediately looked underneith the can and it read 10/11/08 RX9 or something!.

This to me must be the use by date - lately ive had to go into these corner shops (near my area) and open the beer fridge slide door and pluck out the can and read the date on the end!. I wish I didn't have to, but it appears shop owners are more interested in saving £££ and getting the max back from expenditure!.

All the beer cans have this date, and clearly its past its sell by date - shouldn't even be on the bloody shelf!. To my undestanding, this product is not fit for purpose (although one could argue it still contains alcohol of 5!.4% which would fulfil one aspect of my needs)!.

Should I stop whinging and drink the beer or should I put the other 5 back in the bag, empty this can and return them to the store requesting a refund/change of beer !?

The shop keeper shot his mouth of at me once for checking the dates on the beer cans in his store, he was like " whats the problem !? are you inspecting MY stuff !?!?''

so he might mouth off again!. Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
phone trading standards
they will send an inspector out withing 24hrs
they will inspect his stock

)))mean corner shop keepers((((Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you take the beer back to the shop you should get a full refund if you have any problem with the owner take the goods back with you and get in touch with your local trading standards department and give them the information on date you brought it and they should look into it!. Then if this shop does sell out of date stock i would give this shop a missWww@FoodAQ@Com

Go and get your money back and if he starts to mouth off, report him to the trading standards guys!. They're on the internet, look up your local council homepage, there's usually a link there!. In fact, report him anyway, I know we all need to make money but selling out-of-date stuff is just dangerous!. (Think of the hangover!!) Www@FoodAQ@Com

Beer is beer, it may not be 'at it's best' but it's not harmful, and I've found it doesn't change the taste!.

I think it's psychological reasons why you think it tastes different!.!.!.you're expecting it to because you know the best before date!.

In short: JUST DRINK IT!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

As long as you have a receipt, you should be able to get your money back!. It is wrong to sell anything outside its use by date, unless it is clearly marked!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Depending on the state you can turn him into where you get liquer licenses!. Take it back , if he's a jerk, you can have his license revoked!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Take it back!.
He has no right to talk to you like that!.
If he refuses to refund, call the council!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if its out of date he has to give you your money back, if he mouths off just tell him you will report him for selling out of date stockWww@FoodAQ@Com

i mean depending on how long it has been expired i really wouldnt care Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with Tinotoin, just drink it and stop being a wuss !!Www@FoodAQ@Com

whilst it is not illegal to sell beer past it's best before date, it should be pointed out that it is past it's best!.
as an off licence manager myself i can see how this could happen accidentally, however a complaint should be taken seriously!.
if the guy refuses to do anything about it, report him to the environmental health dept!. at your council!.
he'll think twice about selling out of date beer in future!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

usually the date is just a guide and can still be drunk after the date!. if it taste wrong you should take it back, the shop shouldn't of sold it to you ,unless it was reduced due to be nearly out of date!.maybe you should report the store to the environmental health /trading standardsor even to the beer brand i'm sure they wont like it bad publicity for their brand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
