Cans are actually good for beer!. The belief that cans impart flavor to beer is a myth, because aluminum cans and lids are lined with a water-based coating, so the beer and the can never touch!. Cans keep beer especially fresh by fully protecting it from light and oxygen!. Cans also hold extremely low amounts of dissolved oxygen, so beer stays especially fresh for longer!. Cans are also easier to recycle and less fuel-consuming to ship!.
Most of the beer that I consume at home is from a bottle!. I drink for quality, not quantity, and I'm hard-pressed to find quality beers in cans, with a few exceptions - like Guinness!. I do enjoy drinking beer straight from a bottle rather than a can, it's a better sensation!. Of course, I can always pour a canned beer in a glass!. I'm hopeful that more breweries and microbreweries will make the transition from bottle to can with a little creative marketing!.

The Beerman Sez that if you're drinking straight from the container then bottles are superior but if you're pouring it into a glass then cans may be better because they protect the beer from light 100% and there is less or no air to harm the beer!. Cans are also more collectible and they cool faster!.
However many micros and imports only come in bottles!. So the better beers are often unavailable in cans!.

There's no air in bottled beer!.!.atleast until you open it!. The air is purged out at bottling time and replaced with CO2 to keep the beer fresher!.
