What Is The Oldest Recipe Of Ale That Is Still Traditionally Brewed Today?!

Question: What Is The Oldest Recipe Of Ale That Is Still Traditionally Brewed Today!?
Does anyone know of any breweries (particularly in Northern Europe) that profess in brewing an historic ale recipe!?

I am obsessed with the Viking/Medieval ages and I'd like to try a brew that the vikings may have chugged on while telling tales of lore around the campfire!. I am well aware that they drank Mead, but I heard that they also drank Ale, the word itself, deriving from the old Norse word, "Alut"!.

So any suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

To be a TRUE beer, their should only be 4 ingredients!. Malt, Hops, Water & Yeast!. These days there's plenty of additives etc!. There are many brews available that are made this traditional way, however, if you want to try & get back to a beer from the earliest of times, then I'd go for a Trappist Monk Beer!. This beer is available from a few boutique & specialty shops & is well worth a try!. The monks are making it today, the same way they have been making it for many, many years - however, there's a few brews that the monks make, that you can get that are only made with 3 ingredients ( more traditional still ) they don't add ANY yeast!. Unlike most natural wild yeasts which would ruin a beer brew, this one doesn't, & is perfect for the monks natural process!. The mix is left outside & a this particular strain of natural yeast which is in the air where the beer is made, ends up kicking off the brew!. I've had this beer with cherries in it as well & it's a treat! Hope you find what you're looking for! This would be one of the oldest types of beer made today in my opinion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

To be true beer it needs only be brewed with a grain such as barley, wheat, rice, oats, etc!. But historically beer ingredients have changed through the centuries so what was used thousands of years ago are not necessarily used today!. So what ingredients does the future hold for beer!?

This is a great article!. I know it is not what your asking but I thought it pretty cool!.
