Not only should there be a drinking age (I'll just arbitrarily say 18), there should be a drinking license or certification that is required to purchase or consume alcohol!. Just like being certified to drive, it would require education and the passing of a written examination!. also, just like the driver's test, there should be a drinking test, wherein the candidate is able to drink in a controlled environment, stay within their limits, and practice good habits such as rehydrating and calling a cab home if incapacitated!. If the candidate shows maturity and common sense, voila, he passes and receives his certification!.
If a person abuses alcohol in any way (distributing to a minor, public intoxication, open container), then the license can be suspended or revoked!.
Educating people about the dangers and risks of alcohol before they are allowed to consume it freely is very important, just as important as their age!.

I'm a 23 year old male and I believe the minimum drinking age should be 21, unless you are in the military, then you can drink at 18 (bars only)!.
If the government does decide to lower the drinking age, I am hoping it will be 19 rather than 18!. I feel it would only promote high school seniors to buy alcohol for their underage classmates!. I was there myself not too long ago and I know how rowdy it can get!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it makes all kinds of sense to set the legal drinking age at 18 for many reasons, but unfortunately, Americans are notoriously irresponsible, so changing it back to 18 (I remember when it was most everywhere) is probably not worth the lives that would be lost to kids who just can't handle it!. Sad, but true

In regards to chris l's answer I would just like to say that I think that's effin ridiculous!!! Get a license to drink!?!? Are you kidding!?! Well I would hope you are!.!. How many kids go through D!.A!.R!.E!. programs and still abuse drugs!? How many kids have "sex can wait" classes and still get pregnant while in high school!?!? How many kids take driver's education classes and still drive like s**t!?!?!? Far too many! But making people get a license to drink!?!? That's seriously delusional!. If kids want to drink, they're going to do it!. Making them take a class probably won't change their opinion on drinking!. If they are going to be a binge drinker, they probably would drink before they could "get a license" anyways, so the classes really wouldn't matter!. It would just make it harder for the people that want to drink responsibly!.

I think the minimum drinking age should at LEAST be 21!. our military people can drink at age 18 while on military base!. that is fine in my opinion!. as far as civilians go, 21 seems like a reasonable age to me!. I am a bartender and can't ever imagine the drinking age going down!.

i'm a female, 28, my husband is 21, i don't drink, he used to!. he's in the army, but i think if you can vote at 18, and you can go to war at 18 then you should be able to drink legally!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
Where i live you can legally have sex at 16 and have baby! So i think 18 seems a good enough age to be allowed to drink!.
