what does a russian know of whiskey(they know vodka) You need to ask an irishman(me) Go with Irish whiskey, bourbon is distilled once, scotch twice but irish whiskey is distilled 3 times!. I am a fan of John Powers(i own a Pub) but even Jameson is good choice, as are several single malt irish whiskeys in your price range!. take my word for it go with irish whiskeyWww@FoodAQ@Com
Thirty dollars will get you a lot of decent whiskeys, such as Jim Beam is well under that, as well as Old Grandad!. Even Maker's Mark and some of the single barrel bourbons come in under that!. There is even a number of pretty good Scotch Whisky that you can get for that price!. You don't have to break the bank to buy a good whiskey, a lot of the high priced whiskey does not merit the extra money spent, they are more to show others you can afford them, also known as conspicuous consumption!. Any way im living in New Zealand now and we have nz dollars so im not sure about exchange rate but i will tell you nice whisky which is cheap and not to bed for the price range
Jim Beam white is a good choice with cola probably or Jim Beam black will be perfect for sipping
Jack Daniel's of course will be safe bet but will cost you more then Jim Beam and it's not bourbon but some people really like it
Wild Turkey also might be good and not to expensive if you pick the cheapest one plus Wild Turkey quite strong ABV bourbon compare to Jim Beam white label
So i name few not the cheapest whisky but quite good for their price range of course it have much cheaper whisky then these but these ones i can trust at any day :)
I think what you should do is go to your local liquor store and ask for some advice also then you might make up your mindWww@FoodAQ@Com

At least you're a whiskey drinker!. A poor cognac drinker is in bad shape indeed!.
Depending on taxes in your state (I'm assuming U!.S!.A!. here), you should be able to get something like Evan Williams, Makers Mark or Knob Creek for ~$30!. All are good bourbons that actually taste good neat or on the rocks!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I agree with Iminthemountains!. Don't bother with bourbon it is made from at least 51% corn which is cheap and nasty!. Go for a grain whisky as it is better tasting and far more superior!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Wild Turkey 101 or Gentleman Jack!. Both are good sipping whiskeys!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
