How much beer and wine to purchase for our wedding recpetion?!

Question: How much beer and wine to purchase for our wedding recpetion!?
We are having approximately 160 people who are drinking at our reception!. It is a cocktail reception with passed hour' derves!. We are serving beer and wine!. The reception will be from 7:00pm-1:00am in January-(6 hours total)!. We would like to have some kegs, and some red and white wines!. also, what kind of wines would you suggest!?-(pino grecio, chardonnay, merlot, shiraz!?)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
One keg=200, 12oz glasses of beer (more if less foam)!. So, 4 kegs could yield 8 glasses each, to 100 or so beer drinkers!. Obviously, some won't drink beer, some won't drink wine, some won't drink any alcohol!.

1 bottle of red, and 1 bottle of white x 160 guests = 320 bottles, or 27 cases! That's a bit much!. If you have 16 rounds of 10ppl each, with preset red and white dinner wine, that's 32 bottles of dinner wine!. (Again, some will drink it, others won't)!. also figure in reception wine, and after dinner wine!. About 2-3 cases each, red and white during hors d'oeuvres, and 1-2 cases after dinner!.
total= 8-13 cases of wine!.

Besides having sodas and bottled water, you may want to consider a spiked punch!. Champagne fountains are so 80's, ugh!.

As far as the type of wines, semi-sweet whites and mellow reds will appeal to most wine drinkers!. Fetzer Gewurztraminer is really nice!. Alamos Chardonnay is a fruity and pleasant, and Pepperwood Voignier is a nice alternative, in addition to most Pinot Grigios!.

When it comes to reds, the shiraz would be a great choice, as well as some merlots!. Many people find Lambrusco pretty tasty, too!.

Ecco Domani has some solid wines, and a few blended varietals that are really enjoyable!.

A few big bottles of Berringer white zinfandel will appeal to your aunties!.

I'd pick out some wines and do a tasting, and see which ones you like best!. You should be able to get a case discount from the wine store or your grocery store!.

Cash bars at weddings are annoying for the guests, and the bartenders!. Avoid them like the plague!. You want your night to be fun and free flowing, so everyone has a good time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Imagine how much each person could drink in 6 hours, then add some!.

A bottle of red / person!.
A bottle of white / person!.
A couple of liters of beer / person!.

Don't get a wine that's too sweet - try a dry shiraz!.

I had a couple of boxes of wine and beer left over from my wedding party!. It was great to slowly get through it all over the following 6 months!. Have fun ;)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Figure half a bottle of wine per guest!. Some will drink more, some will drink less!.

I'd recommenced going wine tasting to pick your wines!. You'll save on shipping and maybe find a new local favorite!.

Otherwise, Shiraz is a safe bet (not too dry or sweet)!. For relatively cheap and tasty Shiraz, try Little Penguin!.

For whites, try Pinot Grigio or a Gewurztraminer!. Again, not too dry!. A lot of people don't like oaked chardonay!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Red wine- Merlot
White wine-Chablis

Every think about a cash bar!? I'd say two kegs of your choice beer!. Perhaps you can inquire with the wedding party and get an input of what they would prefer!. Good Luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I guess it depends on how many drunken brawls
you want!.I mean really, 6 hrs!.Are you kidding!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
