Is the year on the Wine bottle the expiration date?!

Pass it on over to me and I'll drink it and check it out!. Of course I'll have to consume the entire contents of the bottle to ensure it's safety but at least you'll be OK!.

The year on a wine bottle - 1997 - is the year of production of wine!.
If there is a label on the other side of the bottle, this may tell you to drink the wine in the same year as production - in other words, it will not keep!.

Wine connoisseurs know which year was better than others, depending on a number of factors, such as the weather etc!.

That is not the expiration date!. That is the year of the harvest (not bottling)!.
Some reds improve with age!. So, you might have a wonderful bottle of wine there!.
BTW, it is not illegal to own a bottle of wine when you are 7!.
