Alcoholism? where will he end?!
hi!. my dad has been on a drinking spree for about a year he has fallen out with practically all his family but this weekend things came to a head as he was arrested for trying to damage property after been refused drink at a pub!. To make a long story short he ended up in hospital because he was so dehydrated he needed a drip!.did this happen because he is starting to detox !?and how long will it take him to dry out !? will he remember all that happened in the past year !? he is 73 years old and has always had a problem with drink will this ever end!? so tired of it nowWww@FoodAQ@Com

as a person who's father has drank since before i was born this never stops, but he has been doing this for only a year right!? or has it always been like this!? has he been through something dramatic!? my family has a long line of alcoholism!. i don't think your dad is detoxing!. he more then likely need a drip A) he just isn't drinking water B) all hospitals start those stupid things!. detoxing is way worse then that, my dad detoxed when he need to have lab test done!. he throw up ran fever had stomach problems was very hurtful in the things he said to us!. as soon as he had those test and a beer he was great acted like nothing ever happened!. this will not end until he sees what he doing to you and himself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
He needs to detox in rehab alcohol detox can kill you and he needs to be closely monitored!. He will probly remember bits and pieces of the past year but he sounds like he needs more than the typocal 28 days try looking into extended treatment!. I too have a father who suffers from addiction he has been a heroin addict for 20 years!. So when u say u r sick of it i understand!. The drip is because alcohol dehydrates you!. In regards to your other questions, it varies!. At his age, it will be hard to quit drinking; it's a major part of his life!.

You can't change this disease, you can't control it and you can;t cure it, a family disease!. Try to attend alateen in your high school or al anon good luck and happy thanksgiving!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Talk to a lawyer, have him legally declared infirm and incompetent, and try to take control of his finances!. He can't get drunk if nobody gives him any money to buy booze!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
