A good red is anything from France or Italy, particularly a Bordeaux from France or a Chianti from Italy!.
Whites from Germany are good, look for Reisling
And California wines from Sonoma or Napa valley are very good, if you spend a tad closer to the $25-40 price range, you'll get a very good bottle!. You don't have to spend $50 to get a really great bottle, but if you do, it should be very, very good!. Buy from a specialty wine shop where the shop keeper will be willing to talk to you about what you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

2005 Robert Hall Rhone de Robles $20 has a great flavor that builds up, but finishes nicely!. A good value for a wine this caliber!.
Barton & Guestier Pouilly-Fuisse 2002 $27 is a beautiful and light French wine!.
Clocktower Australian Tawny Port $12 is an amazing port wine, falling into the $60-$120 taste profile!. Excellent for a man during the winter chill!.
Segura Viudas Brut Reserva sparkling wine $12 is tasty, not too dry
With these prices, I'd recommend some combination of the three!.

In the white wine selection - my pick is mostly good year Rhine Riesling or the south sloped Mosel!.(the gentle sweetness from the good sunny year is crucial)!.
With the red it is very hard to answer!.
The taste of different people is variable!.
Forget the expensive French varieties and pick some good reds from either California, Chile, Australia or South Africa!.
Half price - same taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
