Here's the ultimate rule: White Wine with White Meat rule and Red with Red is out the window!.

What it basically boils down to on layman's terms is, If you enjoy it and your think it tastes good, then great, enjoy it! Your the only one the wine has to impress!.

That said, if one knows nothing about wine and pairing it to foods then yes the white with white and red with red is a step in the right direction and a very basic guideline!.

Rich foods should be paired with highly acidic wines to cut through all the richness/fat and cleanse ones palate!. Don't just consider the meat on the plate but what else is being eaten too like sauces and Vegetables!.

Asparagus is the one vegitable that goes with almost no wines and can make the most beautiful Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc or Reisling taste like bag in the box trash wine!.

With time and experience you will learn what wines tend to go with what flavors!. For instance, Chocolate and Cabernet pair very well while Pinot Noir and BBQ tend to be a match made in heaven!.

The hardest food wine match for me has always been turkey!.!.!.!.!.because it has dark meat and light meat!.!.!.!.!.not to mention all the strong sides like cranberry and such

I usually go with a Gewurztraminer (Cono Sur makes a good one)
and then a light Pinot Noir !.
That way your guests can have a bit of both or just drink a red or a whiteWww@FoodAQ@Com

Poultry usually calls for a white wine, but I am sure you can drink what you want with it!. It is all a matter of taste!. I have seen people drink red, rose and burgundy with poultry!. also consider your side dishes and the sauces you might have with your dinner!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You have some good suggestions so far but if you want red wine with that bird, get a light red like Pinot Noir or Burgundy (same, same)!. Personally, that is my choice with turkey!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd get a white wine like Pinot Grigio or Chardonnay!.
White meat-white wine
Red meat-red wine

heavy red may not be the best match for turkey, you'll put people into a coma!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

everyone likes MerlotWww@FoodAQ@Com

Chablis or Chardonnay lolWww@FoodAQ@Com

Hey I say get some of both!. Www@FoodAQ@Com
