No!. Today making/brewing your own beer is often much more expensive than buying it!. You can find some good beers that are cheaper to buy or sometimes you can make similar beers that are cheaper than buying it commercially!. But generally today brewing is not about being cheap but having a means to "produce" what you like on your own!. Brewing is highly social!.

is it cheaper!? depends what you are compairing it to!. I make hard cider, which comes out to be about $12-15 for about 5 gallons!. buying hard cider at the store is $8 for 6- 12 oz bottles!.!.!. thats:
5 gal = 640 oz = $0!.03 an ounce

It's legal!. Whether it is cheaper than buying it depends on what you drink!. It is not cheaper than the megabrews!. It is a lot cheaper than commercial beer that is worth drinking!.
