You're fine, so far!. As your primary fermenter, get an icing bucket and lid from a large bakery and drill the lid to take the airlock!. That way, you don't have to deal with a narrow neck!. Try to get a glass carboy to use as a secondary fermenter!. This will avoid a plastic-y taste!.
I'm assuming that you already have a recipe but you might want to get your hands on The New Complete Guide to Home Brewing, by Papazian!. It has good, easy to follow instructions and some great recipes!. It will tell you everyting except how to pray to Ninkasi, the goddess of beer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You're doing fine so far!.You've got the stuff to make a decent batch of homebrew!.You're only weakness is the plastic water jug!.If you have to use it bottle beer as soon as it's ready,do not age in plastic!.You can get off-flavors from it!.Better to have extra sediment in the bottles than funny tasting beer!.A new 5 Gal!.glass carboy costs about $17!.00!.It will last forever and no off-flavors from it!.You can also find them at garage sales and 2nd!.hand stores for $5-10 dollars!.You will also need corn sugar for priming the beer!.It's under 1 dollar/pound!.Good Luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Check out sites from CAMRA in Britain and American Homebrewers Association in the USA for some great brewing source material!. That cooler is not a great choice for a fermentation tank!. Look up a local or purchase from the same source a glass carboy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
