What causes black-outs when drinking & how can I prevent them?!

Question: What causes black-outs when drinking & how can I prevent them!?
I'm 29 & have been drinking for about 10 yrs now, always only socially!. When I was younger, I would drink 5-6 mixed drinks in 4 hrs, once or twice a week, but my tolerance has dwindled down in recent years!. Now, I only drink 3-4 glasses of wine in 4 hrs, twice a week!. For the past 5 years, I've been experiencing blackouts when I drink!. I go from tipsy to blacking out in no time!. Fortunately, I'm always with friends or my boyfriend, so nothing bad happens!. No one notices a change in my behavior, but I just don't remember parts of the night the next day!. I'm not in denial & I know for a fact that I am only drinking 3-4 glasses of wine in 4 hrs, once or twice a week & that no one is putting anything in my drinks!. I always eat before I go out drinking!. I also take vitamin C, milk thistle & green tea supplements before & after I drink!. What could be causing these black-outs & how can I prevent them!? Would gingko help with the memory loss!? Should I detox my kidneys & liver!? I don't want to give up my socializing & wine! And no, I don't drink & drive!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

if you are taking any medications, like anti depressants, this will cause your alcohol tolerance to lessen!. trust me, ill only have like three drinks and i cannot remember a thing!. so, consider researching any medications you are taking because that could be the culprit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It sounds like a low tolerance to alcohol!. Your MD should be able to assess your chemistry further & let you know if the milk thistle might be a contributing factor!. It's a great herb to have on hand but it's potent & before drinking may be too much on your system!. Before starting any detox it's a good idea to have a blood test to determine if any elevation with kidneys, liver etc!. Good LuckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Blackouts are caused by a brain chemistry change due to over drinking!. They cannot be prevented!.

This is one of the major signs of alcoholism!. Someone who drinks for the first time cannot have a blackout!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You may have to cut back, both the amount and the time window, but blacking out may be indicative of other problems that are exacerbated by the drinkingWww@FoodAQ@Com

Kiddo, you are describing classic symptoms of an alcoholic!. You say nothing bad happens!? Hun what do you think is happening when you re passing out!? Women especially need to be careful with alcohol!. Ya just can't put that kind of alcohol into your body like a man can!. You cannot metabolize it, which is why you are passing out!. Your kidneys and liver are not meant to process high levels of alcohol, it produces cirrhosis of the liver, and will cause your kidneys to shut down over time!. You have a few choices here!. One, go get a total physical to rule out anything serious!. Be honest with your docs, telling them all you do, what you are taking, etc!. If they say, ya need to cut back, do it!. better yet, take a breather from alcohol for say a month or two, see how your body reacts!. You can still have a social life, party, just without the booze!. Its called you get drinks made without vodka, etc!. ya need to do this, as you need to see how your body responds!. If you don't black out, are ok, you know its the alcohol!. One cure for that one, cut way back on the amount of liquor you put in drinks adding lots of mixers, and ice, water, soda, etc!. Some people are just allergic to alcohol and can't handle it!. You might be one of them!. Trust me, this beats living on dialysis or waiting for a transfer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
