The best deal out there right now is the Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc!. Around $15 a bottle!. It's been a Wine Spectator Top 100 wine 2 of the last 3 years!. See if your local shop has both the 2007 and 2008 and gift one of each to this person!.

A FANTASTIC gift would be a 375ml of the 2005 Chateau Guiraud; a Sauterne!. This was #4 on the Top 100 list this year and is out of sight!.

Ridge often has good Chardonnay!.

And Domaine Drouhin Arthur is awesome this year!. This would be a great gift as well!.

I don't think price makes it the best wines, but look for age on a wine as well as the type of wine you think the person you getting it for fits!. Wine tends to be regional so its hard to say you would have similar ones!. If they like something sweet go with a Resling and if they like something a little more bitter try a savingon blanc!. Make sure you try to buy one with a real cork in it, I hate plastic corks I think they look so cheap!. If its for new years Champagne is also a must have the nectars tend to be more expensive!. also I'm not sure if you have any local vineyards but that is where I try to get alot of gifts I think it shows you went out of your way and not just dropped by a liquor store to pick some up!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Any white wine made with Albarino grapes is great! Here are a few choices for you:

Portal do Fidalgo Alvarinho
This Portuguese wine (2006, $20), made from Albarino grapes grown over the border from Rias Baixas, is an exceptional value!. With glorious, full-bodied sensations of honey and green herbs, it would pair brilliantly with Spanish dishes such as stuffed piquillo peppers and tortilla espanola!.

Granbazan Albarino Ambar
Free-run grape juicethe liquid released before the grapes have even been pressed -- distinguishes Granbazan's Albarino (2005, $23), which is slightly golden in color!. Its banana scent and rich peach-leather flavor would make it a great sip with summery desserts, including peach custard pie!.

Do Ferreiro Albarino
Forceful lime notes make this bottling (2006, $27) a particularly nice match for simple shellfish dishes, such as lobster with drawn butter!. The sandy, granite soil of the Salnes Valley vineyards comes through in this renditions Chablis-like minerality!.

Don Olegario Albarino
An undertone of golden raisin enriches the lively Granny Smith and grapefruit flavors of this Albarino (2006, $22)!. It's a superb pairing for spicy foods, such as grilled chicken marinated with lime juice and jalapeno!.

Pazo de Senorans Albarino
The attractive floral aromas of honeysuckle and paperwhite in this wine (2006, $29) give way to flavors of white peach and grape that linger on the palate and then finish with a crackling tartness!. It's on the pricier side of the Albarino spectrum, but it's the perfect aperitif for a special occasion!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Mirassou Vineyards Chardonnay ~ fresh, fruit-forward Chardonnay with seafood and poultry dishes, and both mild and flavorful cheeses!.

2006 Mirassou Monterey County Riesling ~ aromas of peach, apricots, and spice with intense fruit flavors of red apple and peach!. These primary flavors are complimented by a slightly mineral taste and touch of effervescence on the palate!. Crisp and delicately structured, as a result of the cooler but sunny growing conditions that provide naturally firm acid levels, this wine is extremely food friendly!.

Will typically run u between $ 10!.00 - $ 10!.99

California wines are the best! and they shouldn't cost more than $20 per bottle (probably alot less) !.!.!. Look for something from Beringer, Mondavi, Cakebread (great red wines), or other wineries in either Napa or Sonoma Valley!. For something a little different, you might want a German gewurtztraminer!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
