Can you be allergic to different types of alcohol?!

Question: Can you be allergic to different types of alcohol!?
Tonight at a bar I had an Iced Coffee with Starbucks Liquer and I think Bailey's liquer!. I drank just one glass of it!. I've tried other drinks before but I actually drank this all!.

After taking a shower now my face and neck is really itchy!. Can this be an allergic reactions or from pimples/acne!. I used the brand soaps/shampoo I always use so I don't think it's a reaction from that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Yes you can have allergies to a range of things which may or may not be present in alcohol!. An allergy to alcohol itself is fairly rare!. Generally speaking, the most normal allergy caused by other ingredients in an alcoholic drink tends to affect the lungs and interfere with breathing!. I have a rather annoying allergy to histamines which are common in red wine (I LOVE red wine) and which I developed later in life!.

What you are describing sounds like an allergic reaction which has caused hives and this does need investigating, as does any serious breathing difficulties!.

You can develop allergies during the course of your life as your exposure to certain items increases!. Quite often, the first few times you try something, you have no reactions to it, but the next time you will and this reaction each time you try the particular item can worsen!.

Be on the safe side, have it checked out!. If you are allergic, make the people around you aware of it!. I have a very dear friend who has an extreme allergy to alcohol and one day his 'friends', not knowing about his serious allergy, but being aware that he didn't drink, slipped a shot of vodka into his fruit juice!. He was on life support in hospital for some time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Of course you can be allergic to a specific alcohol!. Maybe you should get the rash checked out, and go for allergy testing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes absolutly, just like anything else different types of alcohol can cause allergic reactions, they contain artificial colors, flavors etc!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
