Want to quit drinking alcohol but can I on my own?!

Question: Want to quit drinking alcohol but can I on my own!?
About a week or so ago i took 3 straight days off and before that i'd guess for around I guess 4 months I was drinking i'd say 5-6 times a week!. When I drink it's usually between 6-12 beers and only on a few occasions have I been extremely drunk!. I usually get to a moderately drunk stage and stop drinking, and all I drink is beer, while going out at night!. I have had some withdrawl symptoms but only after a day or 2!. I take benadryl at night to calm me down and relax me and also zoloft earlier in the night for anxiety!. Can I quit on my own, or will I go through severe alcohol withdrawls if I do and need to seek medical help!? I wan't to stop tonight but is it the best idea!.!.!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Congratulations to you for wanting to make a positive change in your life!. I think it is possible to stop drinking without professional help!. However, it might be difficult if you are unable to recognize your behavior patterns (root causes) that lead you to drinking in the first place!. You might want to try attending a few Alcoholics Anonymous Meetings or if you have health insurance perhaps your doctor can recommend a short term treatment (outpatient) program!. A few things you can do in the meantime is:
-Rid your home of ALL alcohol and don't buy anymore
-If you have drinking "buddies" you might want to chill out on hanging out with them for the time being!. Try hanging out with people who have healthier lifestyle habits!.
-Make changes in your lifestyle!. If you don't exercise!.!.!.start!. Even if it's just taking long walks!.
-Enlist the help of your family and friends to garner more support!. Chances are they've been there all along!.
-Start each day anew!. You are worth it!. Let the past remain so!. Know that you CAN do anything when your mind is set on it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can quit alcohol on your own

A!.A!. is very helpful for people with serious problems, but i disagree with their "universal" method!. i say that because regardless of your drinking problem you will get the same exact treatment!. they teach you that you ahve a disease and cannot drink at all!.
i believe with discipline you can limit yourself to only drinking one or two beers!. if you do AA they will tell you that you can never drink again

try it by yourself, but if you cant do it than seek professional helpWww@FoodAQ@Com

If you believe in God, try Alcoholics Anonymous!. They have a good program!.

If you're black, try the Nation of Islam!. They are successful at rehabilitating alcoholics and drug addicts!.

If you have money, consider a doctor-supervised rehab program, either in or out-patient!.

Without discipline and a change of life style, you won't get very far!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

it sounds like ur beyond just a drinkin problem!. It sounds like you have alcoholism!. Because of the withdrawl i wouldnt say stop tonight!.!.!.!.but first thing tomorrow find a treatment program!. You do need assistance and professional treatment!. Please get the help! Good luck if u want me to help u find somewhere in ur area email me!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

since you had withdrawl you should talk to your doctor!. You probably won't have severe symptoms but it's better to be safe!.

At the same time ask him about taking topamax!. I took it & lost the desire to drink on the first day!.

you don't need to go to AA, I call them Nazis!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think that your problem will be psychological and not physical!. I suggest talking to your psychiatrist (who prescribed you zoloft) or getting involved with an out patient type rehab group!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Dude, if you only drink beer and not even a lot on occasion, you should be totally fine!. You could be a much worse alcoholic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can by your self but get your self in an AA meeting they will give you more moral support!.!.! : ) Good Luck Man!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

AA is a good place to startWww@FoodAQ@Com

it doesnt really sound like you are an alcoholic!.
honestly, it might all be in your head!.
there is no easy way to go about it, because no matter what i say you are still going to think you are an alcoholic!.
when i was only 16 or 17 i drank for a year straight!.!.!.EVERY day!.
i dropped out of school and moved in to some guys house and drank all the time, there was no stopping me!.
beer when i woke up, beer for breakfast, lunch, dinner, i'd be drunk all day!.
when i finally stopped drinking i thought i was an alcoholic at that point so i thought i was going to die
but really i think it was just a hangover!.
anyways,
go talk to your doctor
dont go to any alcohol places until youve talked with your doctor!. the alcohol programs will make you pay thousands even though their "initial assessment is free"

if you are young you are fine, and you should just stop cold turkey!. If you have been doing this for decades, you probably want some medical help!. I was doing the same as you for a couple of years and i just decided to quit and not touch the stuff!. I was fine aside from not enjoying bars anymore!. as long as you don't have delirium tremens, you should just stop and be disciplined about it!. AA helps some people, but I wouldn't recommend it personally!. They like to portray alcoholism as a helpless situation that God will help you out of!. i like to think mind over matter will help you conquer these problems!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
