What is the better type of wine?!

Question: What is the better type of wine!?
I am a complete novice trying to do something nice for my close friend and boss's birthday!. She turns 30 and likes sweeter wines!. Which is better between the usuals like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay!? I'm looking for a champagne, a red and a white, but I'm flexible!. What are your favorites!? And try to stay as cheap as possible!. I still haven't found a money tree!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Chardonnay and Sav Blanc are the two typical table whites, and they tend not to be very sweet!.

For sweet white you could go Muscat, Vouvray, Chenin Blanc or Riesling!.

For red you're looking at big and fruity rather than sweet if you go Noir!. So
I'll give you my stock "light sweet red" recommendation: Antichi Giochi Casorzo Voulet, otherwise known as the "Badminton Lady Wine"!. It's an Italian sparkling red, very light and slightly sweet that I have a case of for parties and visitors!. You can find it for 12 bucks:

Last, I'll recommend you go to a nicer liquor store and ask someone for help!. I can give you a great list of wines but they can give you a great list of wines and walk you to the bottle, so you know its in stock and how much it is!. Just tell the clerk your budget!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are generally dry wines and not very sweet!. If your friend likes sweet wine, try a nice dessert wine!. Canada puts out some nice ice wines (made from frozen grapes)!. If you're looking for a table wine try Gewürztraminer or Riesling (white and moderately sweet) or White Zinfandel or White Merlot (pink and very sweet)!. Wine snobs will tell you that certain wines aren't good, but when it comes to wine!.!.!.the good ones are the ones you like!. :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

I'd second the lady who suggested Gewürztraminer or Reisling!. In California you can get Fetzer for $7!.99 to $9!.99!. You can get Sutter Home or Forestville for even less!. Husch is better but runs $15 or so!.

Gewürztraminer smells like flowers!. It is a light, pleasant wine that many people have never tried!.

Yu can go to

and enter Gewürztraminer in their search box to see some reviews!.

As a side note, since it is a gift, if you have, for instance, $30 to spend, she will probably remember one $30 bottle for a lot longer than she would three $10 bottles!. Your question made it sound like you were going to buy three bottles!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I like Pommery!.!.!.Pop!. It's a little personal size pink bottle and I find it rather sweet!. I've also toured Pommery in France and they age their champagne in ancient roman underground caverns!. It's quite amazing and she might appreciate it!. The personal size "PoP" is about $10!.!.!.and a full size bottle of champagne will run around $35-$40!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

A Spanish Cava is what you want!. Cava is the same as Champagne but much cheaper!. The semi seco (medium dry) is very good for someone that likes sweeter wine!. You can get white or rosé Cava!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For the red wine I prefer blended wine, my favorite is Shiraz-Merlot!. You can pick up a bottle of Black Swan (made in Australia) Shiraz-Merlot for right around 5 dollars a bottle depending on where you live!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If she likes sweet wines try Gewürztraminer or Reisling which are both whites!. For reds if she likes Merlot, she will probably like Malbec!.

Edit: I just thought of another one!. Try Viogner it's a white that's pretty good!. Not too sweet not to dry!. Bev-Mo and Trader Joes have some of the best selections of affordable wines!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Why not go for a sweet bubbly like an Asti Spumate!.
They are pale straw colored, sweet, and bubbly like a champagne!.
Martini and Rossi make a very good one!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For wine pick up a bottle of Riunite Lambrusco!. It's not extremely sweet but I enjoy sweeter wines and really like this one!.

a 750ml bottle will sell for $10 topsWww@FoodAQ@Com

I rarely drink wine, & when I do, it's because my husband has purchased it & he has rather expensive tastes!. We have "Total Wine" out where I am & their staff is very knowledgeable & should be able to point you in the right direction: any wine store (or upscale grocery with a large wine section) should have staff that can give you guidance!. Best of luck to you!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
