Milwaukee or Wisconsin bartending questions!?!
I'm actually in New Berlin but will drive if needed, but do I need a bartenders license!? Would going to bartending school be helpful or should I just try and get a book!? Otherwise should I see if online courses are helpful!?
also, do you think I should call around and see if I can get a job as a server or barkeep to begin with, or just apply for bartender right away!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I live in Greendale, work in Waukesha and have bartended in the past for eight years!. The only requirement is to have a bartender's license if you are going to bartend alone in the establishment at any point!. Otherwise if there is one licensed bartender on the premises, everyone is covered!.
As for courses, you can check on HWY 100 and Washington (or Greenfield) and see about the Bartender's school!. Really, if you ask me, "real life" experience is better than the school!. It's not like the "degree" you will get is a College degree or anything!. It's not like the difference between Yale Law Degree and a Community College Associate's Degree!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Most community college offer a beverage server class that lasts about four hours and then they give you a certificate!. i got mine at MATC in Madison!. They teach you on how to be a responsible server, DUI laws, how to check an ID, etc!. Sometimes they also offer Mixology 101 to train you how to make certain cocktails, etc!. It depends on what bar you apply to if they require you to have the certification or not!. Some do, some don't!. You'll probaly learn the most by doing/seeing so try to get a job in the bar first and the current bartenders will be helpful in training you!. Customer Service skills/training can be helpful also!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You'll most likely need the proper liquor license to be able to serve drinks if no one else with one is working!. Most establishments would require it!. I'm sure if you went to a bar and talked with a manager they'd tell you what they require and how to obtain it!. If you're in New Berlin, stop in Chumley's on Moorland Rd and ask if they have an opening!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You don't need any sort of license or anything!. Just go be a barback and get promoted!. It's pretty damn easy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
