Alright wine experts, I need to start developing a pallet for wine so I can have a good idea about what I am talking about when at friends houses and when picking some out at a grocery store/ cellar!. How should I start!? If you can, please be specific to the brand and type, don't just say some sort of white or red wine!. also, try to make it cheap for a bottle (under $20)Www@FoodAQ@Com

If I were you, I would start with a bottle of Sangiovese!. This is a varietal (a type of grape) grown in Italy!. It is sweet or dry, depending on the region or vineyard!. A fantastic place to start if you really mean what you say!. Do not start with a Merlot or Cabernet as this will skew your view of wine!. A light, fruity variety will expose your taste buds to the subtle complexities of wine and if you sip it SLOWLY, you will find that not only does it make your head swell but it opens your eyes to a different world of feeling and pleasure!. Always smell your wine deeply and swirl it in the glass before you taste!. This gets the sulfides moving and activates your sense of taste before you even realize it!. Open your eyes and look for this grape as it will say Sangiovese or Chianti on the bottle!. Start with Italian wines and move East toward Chile and Argentina!. Finally, North America!. You will be astounded at the different sensations these wines produce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I've been drinking Spanish & Italian wines for over 30 years now and I'm far from being an expert!.
If could start all over again I would hone in on a particular country's region OR pick one grape or a variety of grapes and try it from different areas and from different wine producers!.

There is a particular lexicon that you must adquire in order to talk turkey with wine-ophiles!. There are books and probably the best thing to do is either take a course or frequent a bar where you can find a bar (that sells wine by the glass) you can trust!. Take a note book and go for a drink (of wine) two or 3 times a week!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Never drink cheap wine!. (Water added to molasses) Start of with a semisweet (even fruity) to medium dry white wine*, at a reasonable price, (a small bottle) If you like it write down the details, if you don't forget it!. And from thereon build your pallet!. Join a wine tasters group!
Peace!.

* No details, as I don't know what is available in your area and what you like!. (American, Australian, South African, French, Spanish, Italian, ++) they all make wine!.
Enjoy!.- Its a life experience!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You do not need any advice on how to buy cheap wine!. I think what you want are bargains!.

I love to tell you what I drink, but it probably will not be available in your area!. A problem with publications is once they get a good ratting, they sell out overnight!.

Here is how we started – find a small “independent” merchant that specializes in wine!. Their business depends on repeat customers!. If you feel comfortable with them, then buying one bottle!. If it works out, go back and get more, or go someplace else!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I suggest that you start out by going to a local winery or a wine store!. They have wine tasting tours and parties where you can taste different brands and variations!. The people that hold and attend these events will be able to make suggestions and you may get some great deals on some great wine
