Answers:
image and price!. vodkas are all some form of fermented grain or fruit, distilled to a very high proof and then diluted with water!. the point is to eliminate anything that might have flavor!. the top end vodkas are very good, but so are much cheaper ones!. the only reason to get one of the really expensive ones is to show offWww@FoodAQ@Com

The difference is the amount of filtering and distillation!. If you are drinking a mixed drink you are not going to be able to taste the difference!. I feel like the really cheap stuff (taaka, skol) gives me a worse hang-over, but it could be my imagination!. Even in a martini I, a seasoned vodka drinker, actually think absolut is smoother grey goose!.

As a bartender I see a lot more young people ordering the top shelf stuff, even in mixed drinks, just because they think it sounds cool!. I just think they don't know what they're doing and have money to waste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are mostly correct!.!.!. The difference in "quality" vodkas for the price is really a myth!. Now, Grey Goose, Chopin, Rehorst, etc are very good vodkas, but you know what!? Smirnoff and Fleischmann's are too!. As a bartender for 8 years, I NEVER put top shelf stuff in a mixed drink, only martinis!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I tried a few and didnt like the "taste" of the cheap stuff like Smirnoff however GreyGoose and others in the higher price range were better!.

There isnt much taste to vodka!. I rate it on how smooth it goes down!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It takes an extremely well developed palette to differentiate vodkas!. Check out this video that Mythbusters did on it!.

It is even more difficult to tell once it has been put into a mixed drink!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
