Why do some bars make comos and other "martinis" so darn sweet? Are they just being cheap?!
When I started ordering cosmos years ago, they were good at most of the bars I went to!. Then cosmos became more popular and pretty soon the average cosmo became cranberry juice, rose's lime and a little vodka! Not a martini at all!. Now they are doing it with my dirty martinis!! They put so much olive juice in it that its disgusting!! Are these bars just being cheap!? I thought a dirty martini had a little olive juice, not a whole jar of olive juice and a little vodka!!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a bartender, and usually people that order Cosmos are young girls who watch Sex and the City and dont really know what a real martini taste like!. I usually make them less strong so that the girls will not complain there is too much alcohol!. If you want one made the right way, just tell the bartender to start off with!. Nothing irritates a bartender worse than sending a drink back saying there is not enough alcohol!.!.!.!.especially when we are busy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Most "martini" drinkers now want an appletini, or another girly drink, at least in most of the corner bars/clubs!. They are made that way now because its what the masses want, they want something sweet and not too strong!. If you want it stronger, most bartenders will oblige, after all they are charging you the price most of the time for the glass filled with vodka/gin, as opposed to half juice/half vodka!. Yes they are most likely being cheap!. The mixers (the fruity-sweet tasting stuff in the drinks) is much cheaper than the actual alcohol!. Even if you go to the store you can see that the flavored mixers without the alcohol are very cheap, then the actual alcohol is more, and they are probably even using the cheap rum and vodkas that come in the big bottles (I use those at homes for mixed drinks)!. If you are looking to get a quality drink AND go out, I would suggest NOT going to a club or any scene like that, that is all you will get is watered down drinks that they jack the prices up on!. If you go to a classy bar with tables and chairs and nice music and people dressed in a classy fashion, then you will get a good drink for the right amount of money and it will taste good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
you have to forgive most bartenders!. most people who order "martinis" nowadays don't really want a martini!. there are so many drinks that get sent back because they are waaaay too strong!. if you want a girly drink, then order a girly drink!. this is the bartenders fault because they either never learned how to make a good drink, or assume that everyone wants a watered down crappy drink when they order a cosmo!. so, it's the "amateur" drinkers and the amateur bartenders fault!. most will be able to make you a proper drink if you order it at the bar!. if you order it from a table they probably think you want the "girly" version!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yeah well most places of business are "cheap" and will sting so they can pocket more money!. When my drink isn't strong enough, I tell them so and they usually remake it with no problem!. Just bring it to the bartenders attention, they really can't tell you "No, it tastes fine!." because after all, they haven't tasted your drink!.!. Atleast I hope not!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
